Oh Sammi, never known such a year on the forum, maybe it will happen yet. I have the hogs to feed and enjoy in the garden at least to keep me occupied.

Yesterday we had a brief visit from a bt. Hopefully it's a male with a view to having a second family but I'm not convinced. Today my son telephoned me to say that they have bluetits taking nesting material into his box So at least we have a nest in the family The sparrows are nesting next door in the school roof which faces south but I imagine it is deep enough in to keep cool. Its directly above the playground so I don't think the noise bothers them

Good luck Sammi let’s hope he has a piece on the side to set up a second nest My son also has a nest think it is egg laying and taking more feathers in to hide the eggs So keeping it the family 😊

Oh Sammi, really hope this is a turning point . Such a good job we have children nest boxes to rely on for our ‘fix’ when ours don’t play ball. Sue

Kind of reminds me what a female did in my box last year Sammi brought all material in for one day and never carried on, I do wonder if they do this to put other birds off if they're nest is local stops nest sites being used close by their own

It's an odd one really. The nest material was put in on the morning of the storm which probably is odd on it's own but that morning a huge tree was being felled next door and I wonder if this had disturbed a nest and they thought the had better have a spare nest box ready just in case. Who knows? All the nesting behaviour I've seen this year has been very half hearted. I once had a nest start in early May so a bit of me is still hoping.

One or two visits today but only a single bird. He (I assume) does a lot of hanging at the entrance outside with the occasional visit inside. Odd

Yes I am foolishly 'clinging' on It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't keep teasing me Tried keeping an eye on my son's box today but lego got in the way. From reports though I think their nest is still under construction We have loaned them our scope so they can keep an eye on the goings on

Odd Same is happening here too, the local male has been hanging around calling out and has visited the box a number of times, but the female hasnt looked in, Im wondering if he is trying to get a second female now his other is busy egg laying and soon incubation, clutching at straws really but stranger things have happened!

There should be a 'clutching at straws emoji ' for this group I hope your male finds a new lady. The very wet weather here has dampened all activity. Hey ho

I'm still clutching on to those straws Lots of visits by the male to the entrance and occasionally inside. I suppose he may just be pretending to claim the territory? I've put the mealworms out just to tempt any passing females for him just in case he is looking for a lady.

Thank you all for your good luck messages. well even the warm weather hasn't made any change to the situation so that's one theory out of the window. No visits at all yesterday. Hopefully there will be lots of youngsters around soon from local nests. I can see the school roof from my window so I can watch the comings and goings of the sparrows I will keep an eye on all your nests and hoping they all produce lots of fluffy chicks. Of course if the unexpected happens I will let you know
