Wonderful Sammi, beautiful to watch the eggs hatching and the chicks growing. So many to watch on here at the moment. Love it. Sue

I managed to play about with an outside camera to get the mealworm feeder on. I remember from years ago I had one bluetit that always entered through the hole and exited through the cage I think these are Dotty and hubby as you can see the flight path from their box which is just visible top right.(Still 9 chicks) I've got another feeder with just a square entrance cut in that us used by the robin and great tits and others. I feed regular mealworms off and on at other times if the year so they are familiar with the feeders.

Loving that video Sammi, well done for setting up that camera. It really is strange when they struggle through the square to get out when they have so easily entered the front hole . Obviously birds can be as daft as we humans are at times! Sue

I should mention of course that this Scott feeder design is courtesy of our very own Paul.

Our blue tits having been taking a few of the mini mealworms but they have no trouble entering and leaving through the square mesh holes.
Trouble is the worms were really there for the Great Tit chicks but our Great Tits are not interested and our Blue Tits have only just started laying eggs. The worms were starting to turn so I had to let the sparrows finish them off.
I am going to drill some 29mm holes into a clear perspex cube I have bought to see if that works. I have ordered some standard sized mealworms.

Good luck with your mealworm feeder Benn. These are our chicks today. It's hard to count but I think we still have 9. We adjusted the camera angle before they nested and annoyingly the whole nest cup isn't visible.

It's very rare to get all 9 on the camera but at this moment they all agreed to be filmed. There are some monsters and some tiddlers amongst them. I was in two minds whether or not to attend the last match of the football season and leave them for the weekend but my son said he'd visit and top up the mealworm feeders so reluctantly I went I was so pleased to see they were all still here when I got back. A couple of days to go until that eerie empty nest. To complicate things it's grandchildren duties on Wednesday and I wanted to be here to make sure the cats in the area don't linger. I see them stop and listen as they pass under the box as the chicks are pretty noisy now.

Lovely video Sammi, I feel your pain with the cats. One of us got up every morning at stupid o clock to make sure the cat didn't come along. That's a lovely brood you have and so exciting that they will be spreading their wings very soon. I look forward to your updates

Brilliant video Sammi. So difficult when our private lives interfere with our bird watching duties . Hopefully your babies will wait until you are available to watch - maybe the smaller ones at least. Keep updating. Sue

Ah bless - nice to see them doing so well! I'm now worrying that my three might have been in cat peril when they took their leaps a couple of days ago. But I wasn't there, so I can only hope it was all ok.

Fancy asking us to leave our babies at this critical time Camera rehomed now ready for first flights

Sammi I’ve just been catching up on your posts, lovely videos of your blue tit family I have a Scott feeder but it’s not been used I’ve not found the right size container to put in it to make the feeder usable At the moment the great tits are using the box that my husband made Ive no feeders hanging up at the moment as it has been manic with sparrows and the starlings flying at it, all my feeders are globe caged ones

It's good they use hubby's box. Soon all will be quiet sadly.

Thanks Sammi Maybe next time I will be able to find the right depth bowl for the Scott feeder and they will use it Hi Ann, I used to use an old fashioned ramekin dish in mine that fitted perfectly but I dropped it and every one I found after that was just too big. Then I came across these little plastic containers that are meant for crafters to put odd bits in, and this worked perfectly this year for my daughter. Not as stable as a dish but seemed to be fine - just a suggestion.
