So hope the GT nests for you Sammi . Loving seeing all the beginnings for you wonderful people on here. Sue Hi Sue I hope they continue to show interest. Have you any boxes up this year? Hi Sammi, yes got a box with camera on the balcony and a box without on back of garage BUT seems balcony not of interest to any birds at all and one on garage only had the odd visit. Oh well 🤷♀️ Sue

Good luck Sue. Don't give up hope. We decided yesterday to swop a couple of boxes around and move one into a slightly better position and lo and behold.

The bluetit nest is taking shape slowly but surely and the sparrows look like they haven't given up altogether hopefully.

Well the building is going great but today there seemed at one point to be two birds adding to the nest I know the female has a small spot or missing facial feather on her right so for once I can identify a bird Dotty came in with the grassy bits after a bird had been adding moss? Help all you clever folk with better eyesight. Was the first one a male just helping out

Hi sammi, I have just been sitting and watching my BTs build and the male is getting greatly involved, he hasnt added moss but he goes in and fidgets with it and nest wriggles to make a cup so this could be the modern male BT, getting into the home building I think it is the male sammi, as when he enters the box his wings are tilted out and his tail upright, this is how I find the males carry themselves during breeding season.

Thanks Karen, I think your theory of the new male is a good one. I am still trying to see the difference in the markings of the sexes

I find the male is much more vibrant in colour the blue stands out so much more on the male. I will put a video up that might demonstrate this. I have uploaded a video of Glen who enters the box first then followed by Judith, it actually isnt as obvious on this shot but when just watching on the TV the difference is really clear. Your nest and mine are about at the same stage!

Just had a look back through people's posts and it was benn who had some footage of a scrap in the nest box with two birds building in the same place.

One thing I love about our sparrows is that you can tell the sexes apart These two love birds are still visiting the box but really can't decide if it's right for them. Maybe it's just the weather that's not right

Dotty managed to scare off some unwanted presence this morning. When things have settled I will put an outside camera pointing at this box. I just have to decide where to put it

The sparrows have taken it up a notch today and building has caught up the bluetit. I love how the sparrows work together and have little chats when they bump into each other. Occasionally though one takes out the bits that the other has brought in

Like you Sammi, I have never been able to tell the blue tits sexes apart. Usually it is just their actions that give it away but like Karen has said maybe it is a modern male getting on with helping out. Whatever, I hope it is a really successful nest for you - certainly coming on well. Loving watching the sparrows. Only time I ever had a camera to watch and it was sparrows that nested and they built their nest so high up it obliterated the camera and I couldn’t see a thing til the chicks were several days old. Hopefully yours will be more considerate . Sue

Making good progress by the looks of things! Eggs not far off I guess depending on how much feather-faffing she’s planning on doing first
