Update from Yorkshire, day 11 of Judith and Glens nest build and still lots of moss coming in with fine dried grass also, nest cup getting lovely and deep. Also in the Rose box when I had a quick look there is a good amount of moss inside which must have come in early this morning, not sure which BT it is I guess it could be Judith having a play around, but it does have a rooster so will see what happens!

So this is the rooster in the rose box, all along i thought a male but maybe not, will see how this develops and if she carries on building, the box is only 8 feet or so away from the tree box so I dontno how it will go down with Judith who is currently building in the tree box. Oh its gonna be interesting

Quick update on my boxes, so Judith and Glens nest in the tree box is coming along a treat and I think eggs should be soon appearing. In the rose box with the rooster who started building a few days ago there is a bit of drama, I was hoping she maybe Glens bit on the side but she came in tonight to roost with a male in tow who was quickly chased off by Glen, so not sure how this will turn out, hopefully it will be a happy ending for all, time will tell.

Waxworms on order! Have got the live feeders out to get them used to it before they chicks come, just using live mealworms so far and they have used it but only occasionally, the Sparrows are in and out like all the time without hesitation, hopefully once they have chicks to feed they will make use of the feeders esp once the waxworms are in there.

So egg number 2 arrived this morning at 6am for Judith and Glen, I have no clue whats happening in my rose box, its had a rooster since January which I originally thought was a male and paired with Judith as they always arrived together at roosting time, but it is apparent that it is indeed a female as it started bringing moss last week, only very slowly like for half an hour each morning from say 6am to 6.30am then wouldnt see her till roosting time, never seen her with a male until a few days ago when she came into roost with one tagging along which Glen noticed and swiftly chased him away, he hasnt been seen since at least I havnt seen him, but she continues to build and roost each evening, Glen has now noticed her presence as has Judith who both now spend a lot of time looking into her box, there hasnt been any fighting but the female who I have called Rose isnt happy about there nosiness and does the defensive stance thing if she is in the box when they go for a nosy and she will only come out when she thinks the coast is clear this has gone on now for 4 days now, but still she is bringing moss and nest wriggling, I am not sure if she has paired up with Glen as his bit on the side if she has it isnt obvious. I guess time will tell what becomes of Rose, but I have a soft spot for her and hope she get her nest made and hopefully has a successful season.

Maybe Glen is playing it cool so Judith doesnβt suss he has got a bit on the side , or maybe Rose is keeping her mate secret until he is required. Whichever, good news that you have a second nest , brilliant. Sue
