Brilliant Ben, I have done the same since 2016 down our local woods, 7 boxes I have up 6 was used this year. One had wood mice in opened it and 4 was looking up at me so left them alone! Thats why that box wasn't used.

Back from a couple of breaks away. We went around the woods to check the boxes. Pleased to report 3 boxes of Great tits and 1 of Blue tits successfully fledged. One half built nest in another and another abandoned with one egg. Not a bad result considering the remoteness and Moorland exposed area these families were raised in. All natural food that had to be found regardless of the weather. Made up for zero success at home!

No luck with your swift boxes Benn? We have swifts in the road but they have just returned to their old nests basically, I didn't realise just how hard it is to get them to even come close to having a look at a box. I was playing the calls aswell, I think this one is going to be a pot luck, Try every year until it happens.

Great news Benn about all the successful fledgings in all your boxes in the wood - as you say, it does make up a bit for the lack of success with your nestboxes at home, so better for next year with those.
Paul - it is a shame that none of the swifts near you didn't even check out your box, particularly as you made such a perfect job of buying all the correct equipment for it, including the calls. Anyway, as with Benn, I wish you all the good in the World for next year.

Not yet seen a Swift in the vicinity, saw a few last year . Gonna give it 5 or 6 years though. I think I have missed the boat, wish I had done this 20 years ago when we had a large colony nearby. You might attract yearlings in July and early August, immature birds who arrive later and look for new nest sites. You have a much better chance than me if you have birds on your street.
