A bit early really but I have just discovered I have a little rooster in the tree box so I thought I would start my 2024 thread I am always so thrilled to get a rooster and to see them tucked up safe and warm and dry for the night. Not sure if male or female as yet.

I am quite certain my rooster is a female , or a male who for once has been house trained

Happy new year to you all, Just thought I would pop by, the BTs seem to be pairing up and have been looking in the boxes on bright clear days, I still have my rooster each evening, unsure whether a male or female. I at first thought female as it was cleaning poo up but of late hasnt been bothering so much

Hello everyone. The season is getting closer, we are getting plenty of activity from the BTs, lots of courtship behaviour, checking out the boxes and I've had a few double visits that I have seen. There seems to be a good number of BTs too so that is good to see. Not long now folks

These birds are certainly getting busy, I have had so many fights in the tree box I've lost count how many, they are quite brutal too. My rooster who has been roosting for months suddenly disappeared, then came back, more fighting and gone again. Certainly lots of drama here in North Yorkshire!

Its been a very busy few days here with some mild weather, there does appear to be a pair of BTs that are visiting the tree box almost constantly through the day, lots of poo cleaning and even nest wriggles, also the rooster is back. Still appears to be lots of fighting between males

Wow what a brilliant surprise Karen. So pleased for you. That means at least two nests starting early which is brilliant and lets us know the season has begun. Now for the nervous wait for the rest of us Sue

Aw excellent Paul, I will look forward to your updates. This is such a surprise, my previous nests haven't started until late April. Will see how she goes I hope she continues, he is very hands on doing nest wriggles!

mouse checkerLots of progress made yesterday in the tree box, I have put out some of our Cavaliers fur in a feeder for them to use, alongside some wool fabric I got from the garden centre that has many uses, from lining hanging baskets to bird nest material.

Great to see you've got a nest going on! Best wishes for a successful brood. Not looking very promising at my end this year sadly. Keep the pics and clips coming!
