Well, had a pleasant surprise yesterday. Sat eating breakfast and saw a pair of blue tits on the balustrade of my balcony. The next minute they flew up to my box, were there for several minutes. They returned three times that I know of yesterday and two visits this morning. Don’t know if they are getting muddled with the weather checking for roosting or they are ‘early birds’ checking out for next season. Whatever the reason it was a joy to see them . Anyone else getting visits? Sue

You might get a rooster sue! I keep checking mine on a night but nothing so far. But there is lots of BTs around in the trees. I think from Autumn onwards they are already thinking of next season.

You may be right Karen but if I do I hope it’s a female. Had several messy males in the past but this box is difficult to get down and clean out for fear of falling down four floors . Sue ps never did find out about the poor little chick I found in nest box Karen. It was fully feathered but extremely small and I think I it must have been hidden in the corner where the camera cut off and I just didn’t count right in the mass of bodies.

Im with you on that , messy males!! My last nest two hatched a whole 24 hours after the first batch and they never really caught up and one perished as the others were about to fledge, heart breaking to see them get so far but just not make it and run out of time.

Hi Sue and Karen Albeit the weather is glorious it is playing tricks on birds for sure and confusing us humans I have lived her for 37 years and always had robins I haven’t seen my pr for must be close to ten weeks very worried why not Nothing coming to the feeders as plenty of food around I can hear the blue tits singing well in the trees for sure I think they maybe looking for a roosting box Sue early for a pr isn’t it In fact no birds on ground or anywhere to be seen for a good while I’m so looking forward to seeing some activity to the feeders again Enjoy the weather while it lasts Roll on the new season I’m curious to knowing if I have a pr take my box the only othe box I have is the triangle box that is just a home for a rooster I must look if I get one again
ive lost the plot I had forgotten my stone bird box but as I’ve had no takers easily forgotten I’ve got it🤔🤭

Our feeders are very quiet too, no doubt once the cold weather kicks in they will all appear. Next season is just around the corner, lets hope it a good one for the birds and us.

It is lovely to see them Ann, but I am sure the weather is fooling them, come the cold weather and I am sure they will disappear. However, I hope it bodes well that they have my box on their minds. We shall all see. Whatever happens here, hubby is adamant that he is not being banned from his balcony again . Must admit he was so good last year so maybe they will have to be brave birds here and put up with this grumpy old man who will be sitting fairly near their box. . Sue

Isn't it lovely to see them again and they are obviously having a good look. I've had a bit of interest around my boxes too and I can honestly say it lifts my mood on a grey day. Fingers crossed you get a lovely tidy female rooster followed by a nest

Sue you will have to introduce hubby to the balcony in small periods the blue tits will get used to him being there so when nesting time is up and running he can sit back and enjoy watching he may get hooked and enjoy what he sees 🤭😊

He is now keeping me to that promise so I will have to do as you say and take it slowly letting them get used to us . That is IF I am lucky enough to have them nest again . Whatever, I am enjoying their daily visits at the moment . So hope your boxes prove a hit for the next season. Sue

…………..and we have a rooster! What is the betting it is a messy male - I really hope not cause getting this box down to clean out is a nightmare. Think they will have to clean this themselves as not going over the balcony for a bit of poo. Happy to see this cutie though. Sue

Thanks Karen, lovely to see him/her. My suspicion is male as I can already see a couple of bits of poo. Had a second blue tit visit the box this morning (didn’t have camera on but can see them land on balustrade (and then pop up to box) from our dining table), so don’t know if it was it’s mate calling to see if anyone was at home 😄. Hope you turn on one night to find a little surprise in your box . Sue
