Gemma laid an egg! no picture as she has hidden it well, I'm guessing she did it very early this morning and went back to sleep as when I switched on she was asleep and I saw it when she moved as she woke up. Fabulous news Karen! Bananas allowed these days or not?

Think I might have lost Gemma too😢 did a late shift yesterday so wasn't around much, switched on this morning at 5.30am hoping to catch her laying her 4th egg but she wasn't in the box, so I'm not even sure if she came in last night to roost cause the cup doesn't look much different from how she left it from what I remembe. She doesn't usually leave the box till 6am at earliest, hoping I'm wrong and she'll turn up later, but Dexter again is calling looking for her like he did with Emma, however in the meantime he amused himself with a passing female and they had a quicky in the box 🫣definitely not Gemma she is so distinctive, it wouldn't surprise me at this point if its flipping Emma😵💫

Oh Karen, can’t keep up with these goings on . I truly hope Emma or Gemma carry on with the egg laying for you. What is Dexter like??? Fingers crossed that someone soon settles in that nest Sue

Thanks ann and sue, another female as just been in with Dexter and it did look more like Gemma, so I am praying it was, cant see the eggs at all with all the trampling this morning, if there is 4 eggs then I know she is ok and just off for the day doing whatever they do, but it is very peculiar, ann there is certainly lots of BTs around here, more than I have seen the past few years. I am at work again later so I wont know if she comes back to roost till I get home at 10pm, I will leave the camera recording any activity.

What a shame Karen first losing Emma now Gemma Something sadly must of happens if shes disappeared during the egg laying stage Nature can be so cruel sometimes.

Yeah it's so unfair she really made the nest her own and had laid three eggs and she has just disappeared just like Emma, I mean what are the odds, 😕 just seeing the eggs in the cup breaks my heart knowing they won't get a chance at life😢

She didnt come into roost and Dexter still looking for her. I would say 2024 season has come to a sad end really sad for Dexter too as he has lost two partners now, although he does still seem to have at least one other on the go, hopefully he can concentrate on them and it will be successful.

Oh Karen, couldn’t make this stuff up. Feel so sad for you. Am hoping something will still work out. My girl is being very good sitting on her eggs but am so worried that when the scaffolding goes up on our flats (due in the next week or two) that it will completely freak them out. Will only be about a foot away from the box and men going up and down all day. Couldn’t be timed worse . Why do we let these birds get to us so much , but they do. Keep hoping Karen, the same as I will. Sue

Sorry to read this Karen. These little birds lead precarious short lives, often predated by Sparrowhawks or risking being pounced upon when they land to gather moss and feathers.

Sue Thank you sue for your positive message, I really hope your girl will be fine, like I said our box at work was right in the middle of building works but all was ok. I will keep a look out for your updates.

Yes so unfortunate and sad Karen. We had a female predated a few years ago after laying a full clutch and just beginning to sit. It is heartbreaking.
