Oh Paul so pleased for you. They look so snug and cute. I have had a visiting pair for the last week, but today with the colder weather they didn’t show. Have to keep watching and see what happens. Sue

Sorry I haven't been active, Just got home from America. Getting used to these cold temps again, Been living in 30c for the last 2 weeks! It looks like the Log Box will be the box to get the first material this year, Female is keeping the box very clean! I think she is now roosting in the box switch over from the male, She comes in alot without the male bringing her in plenty of nest wriggles and inspections all day. It looks like the female from last year who raised 11 chicks in the box, She just knows the box too well, Very comfortable in there and not really giving her attention to any of the other boxes solely focused on the log box so would make sense that its her again. Here is a little video from today! I'll check up on peoples threads over the weekend! Not long now guys, Not long we should be seeing the first material over the next week or 2!

Same sort of activity in my tree box Paul, female keeping it very clean, nest wriggles etc was filthy a week ago now spotless, not sure if the rooster is the female cleaning it out or not. I didn't get a nest last year despite plenty of interest so hopefully this year

Fingers crossed for you Karen Been watching a wren building its nest by the big pond decking area all morning, The nest is pretty close to the bird box they have used by the big pond the last 2 times. I'll let you know if the female picks it / lines the cup. Here is two pictures of where the nest is / the nest! Its picked a great little spot!

Little video updates from the log box She brings material in, Then by the end of the day its gone! However today still all in there was nothing this morning so maybe shes settled down abit! She is in no real rush abit like last year but she also did time it perfectly last year so she knows best!

Has she got a ring on Paul? Is she one of your previous chicks?

No ring Karen, I do think its the same female who had 11 chicks in this box last season though. She just knows the box too well, Brings herself in and out doesn't rely on the male bringing her (like he does in the early days) Shes had herself set on this box since December, Hasn't visited any of my other boxes at all. She did have a huge fight in the box 2 days ago though, I think he must have a second female. She won the fight though but it was brutal on the other bird! Don't think we will be seeing her coming to the log box again.

Sounds similar to mine Paul, no visits to any other boxes, in and out by herself, also had a few fights along the way, I think she may have been the rooster since November and had her heart set on the box. Who knows? She is cracking on anyway. It is the earliest I have had, previously the earliest was the 29th March, so came as a big surprise!

How my log box is looking this afternoon, After taken the material in and out for over 2 weeks so is finally leaving it in. Looking back on last year she completed the nest around 10th April after not really starting to crack down until 3rd / 4th april. First egg was laid 18th April, So it looks like she is on the same path as last year. Which she timed perfectly, They kept 11 chicks alive for 11 days before finding the mealworms due to natural food! Here is the nest this afternoon
