Hi All Been a bad few years concerning my life but will gloss over that! No Blue Tits this year in either of my boxes but I do have a Robin in my diamond shaped box which has only been used twice in 15 years! My usual BT box had a nest started by a ringed female but after a few days she left it and hasn't been seen since, such a shame. Any way no camera in the Robin nest so won't know what is going on. Hope all are okay good luck to all of you on here. Kathy xx

Hi Kathy, so good to see you back. We miss you on here. Sorry about personal life, just hope whatever it is you are coping ok. Shame so few people have blue tits/great tits this year - really worrying for the population. Take care and post when you can. Sue

Great to hear from you Kathy and sending cyber hugs. I too had a similar start to a nest but nothing else. I hope your robins do well and give you cheeky robin chicks for your garden

Thank you Ann, Sue and Sammi for your kind words much appreciated indeed. I just want to say to those with no nest this year since my post earlier today I am having interest in my high wall box! Yes, it's the 9th of May so is spring late this year? So do not lose hope, If this comes to a full nest I will let you know. All power to those with something to watch this year. Much love to you all and good luck!

Hi Paul Not sure if I'm really back Paul haven't got a moment to call my own so this will be short. Update on Robin and her brood. It appears they have hatched as I have noticed on the odd occasion poo sacks coming out but cannot guess fledging time. I have bought mealworms any way and parents are taking them readily. Blue Tit Camilla has laid her 3rd egg this morning so it has gone full term. Charles is feeding her while she is busy putting the finishing touches to her nest! so that answers Ann's comment but it is late don't you think? Hope Paul all is well with you and your birdies I'll try and catch up when I can but it is hell here at the moment.

Thanks for the update Kathy. Loving the names Charles and Camilla - very fitting. Malcolm’s nest 2 has 3 or 4 eggs laid so others are late as well. Sorry everything still not calmed for you and yours. Sue

Hi All thanks for your comments Update- Robins have definitely fledged, Dad is keeping watch; hope the Cats don't find them as they cannot fly can they for a while? Camilla has I think started to incubate today, cannot quite see her eggs as it is a very feathery nest but there might be 5/6 eggs in there so similar to what Sue and Ann say about Malcolm's little brood.
Any way just off to tend to hubby who is gagging for a pint of squash!!!!

Lovely to know Camilla has started to incubate, hope all goes well. Lovely to hear the robins have left the nest and will hopefully stay safe until they get their wings working well. Sue

Well Sue this a an unusual outcome. Camilla covered her eggs yesterday and was last recorded leaving the box at 3pm and hasn't been back since. Charles visited looking for her but even he was puzzled as to her whereabouts!' I'm wondering whether she will return now as the season is late on and perhaps she has realized the futile attempt to rear her brood with little food out there. Other than that she might have been predated or just died who knows? I have never seen this in my boxes before so I shall wait and see if she returns but it's very odd to me.

Oh Kathy, what a sad outcome this seems to be , trouble is when a bird goes missing we never actually know why. Wouldn’t have thought she would have gone through the laying of eggs with no thought of incubating so I am worried it is more dire than that. Malcolm’s box 2 looks to be incubating so will wait to see what the outcome of that one is. Just hoping mine get to fledging as so few nests around this year. One of my parents seem to be bringing in suet pellets which is not a good sign. I have supplied both wax worms and mealworms but they are ignoring them right beneath their nest box . Do let us know if Camilla returns Sue

Sue and Sammi Just popped on to say that Camilla never returned. Her eggs are still covered with feathers, a few days ago a BT came into the box to cover more of the eggs but nothing came of continued incubation. Not sure if the visitor was Camilla or whether it was another bird? Puzzling to say the least. Oh well there is always next year but this was a first for me. Hope yours have fledged safely. Kathy x
