This greater spotted woodpecker has been visiting our fat-block feeder in the mornings occasionally. My plan is to try and get a high quality picture of it with an old mobile phone mounted next to the feeder, but for now I will have to make do with this picture taken through the window of my office this morning:

Lovely Matt! Seems like you get such an amazing range of birds, How you don't get no nests in your boxes is honestly beyond me at this point.

Yeah its a shame Paul but I need a new strategy, and that is going to involve targeting more than just blue tits. Starlings for sure, and robins I think (we have some residents in the garden, and a few fledglings around last year, so they can't nest too far away). Imagine getting a woodpecker nest! That does happen, apparently - 50mm hole preferred. I could break my duck in style

A woodpecker would be something special. Just hope you get some residents next time, birds are so fussy, can't understand why your cosy homes are not taken

I agree with Taz Matt, woodpeckers are something special, but I have to say, I certainly wouldn’t want them in my garden, I’m with Paul, I really don’t understand how you don’t get any nests, it’s really intriguing Elle xx
