Blue tits are very territorial and seem to chase off everything that shows interest in a box on their patch, it is very frustrating when they are not using it! I hope you get a nest, fingers crossed.

It will be because he runs yours and next doors garden Amanda, He will probably run a few gardens. My male blue tit is visiting a few of my boxes daily although he’s got nest going on with Tatty, He’s just making sure nobody else is around using them I guess does the same thing every year, But out of a blue tit and great tit the great tit normally wins the fights so still hope. My tree box entrance hole was too small for the GTs which did have some interest from them, so next year I will put one up with a bigger hole to increase my chances a little.

You aren’t wrong Karen, Blue tits are bad this time of year. Infact there was a fight in my side view box this morning between my male and a new one, I have small footage of the end of the fight I don’t think am going post it though, was pretty bad looking back my male was pecking its eyes and everything I ended up banging on the box so frightening both of them or it would of lead to death. I think that’s the last I’ll see of the new male now however my male is still very much about carefree! Might rename him Rocky at this stage.

Glad you were able to intervene, they really are firstly little birds. Agree with Karen, Rocky definitely suits him. Sue

What a shame for both of you, some birds are so flipping selfish! A case of "I don't want your nestbox but I'm making sure nobody else has it either!"

Oops - I posted my message from the previous page, so only just seen the further updates. Paul - another possible name for your awful bird would be the Terminator!

I have had lots of activity this morning, with long visits and double visits from the pair nesting nesting next door. I have had a 6 minute visit from ‘curly toe’ which included a wriggle! I presume she is the female, that one brought nesting material well over a week ago.
I’m confused.....I don’t know what it all means

Hi Amanda.....it is a mystery isn't it. It's identical behaviour to the pair who visit my fence box a couple of times a day. No signs of nesting material. Hope you get some nesters soon.

Maybe she’s using your box as a back up Amanda incase next doors get disturbed, If your 100% sure nest building is happening in your neighbours would be no need for her to be doing this, I will be watching your thread to see where this leads for you. I’m still hoping you, Karen and Matt get a nest.

Hi Amanda she Seems to be listening a lot, maybe because your box is in a tree, and obviously the tree getting other birds landing in it, maybe she’s just making 100% sure it’s safe for her to build a nest in that box. I personally think it looks positive, or maybe, I think it’s been mentioned, 1 male to 2 females and yours being the second female!? when you think about it, it does make sense for the males to have the maximum chance of passing his genes on, so therefore try and get as many potential ‘birds’. fingers crossed Amanda Elle xx

Yesterday I had the blue tits visit a few times in the morning, including double visits after a few days with no visits. I thought I saw 3 blue tits on the tree when I was getting ready for work yesterday. I shall keep an eye out today to see what is going on. This morning there was a visit from a blue tit and then I had a great tit take a cheeky look through the hole. It has been cold and windy the past few days, today we have sun so I hope the great tits stick around

Yes for you definitely Amanda. The sooner the weather warms up a lot more the better, then all these birds will finally decide who they're going to live with & in which box!

Well, the pair of blue tits next door are doing a really great job of keeping the great tits away from the box, so I don’t think I will get any nests this year. I have 3 boxes up now, all with camera’s in. The garage box has an LED in too. This box is down the side of the house where is is very quiet, so I wasn’t sure if the birds would see it, anyway here is the first visitor checking out the garage box..... Fingers crossed for for healthy babies in everyone’s nests xx

Lovely picture Amanda, Shame the blue tit isn't letting the Great Tit near boxes. I think something like this is happening with Matt aswell his blue tit is on guard after seeing GT visit.

Happy Easter......it’s looking like it will be a glorious weekend! I had had the male from next doors box visit this morning. I presume another bird landed on the entrance and gave him a piece of dried grass. I can’t see that he picked it up from inside the box. They haven’t been back in since. I don’t expect anything from it but wondering why Have a lovely weekend

Amanda, I just watched the video, Are you sure its not just a piece of straw that was brought in to this box a few weeks ago stuck to his foot and he pulls it off? I am only saying because this would make more sense, Tatty always as little bits of material that gets stuck to her feet then picks them off at hole and brings them back in.
Edit - If you watch the video more carefully you'll notice it does appear he gets it off the back of his foot nothing appears to be in his beak before he bends down and gets it off his foot.

Sammi, he is the male that has been in and out of the box since the day it was put up in February, but he is nesting in next doors box. He won’t let any other birds near it sadly.
