We have pretty go recycling in our area but it anazes me how many food bins that are put out & I wonder what is in them, ok you can not put out your Saturday nights curry out for the birds but you can the left over rice & loads of other out of date & left over foods. Where I worked I fed birds with the usual stuff, Nuts Sunflower Hearts, Dried Fruit, Apples, Mealworms ETC. then there was the food that every body binned at breakfast & dinner, & sandwiches from meetings which know body wanted was vast, Salmon, Tuna, Cheese, Egg,, Chicken, Corner Beef, & Fruit. What a waste, I fed at work 2 to Carrion Crows & there young for 15 years off the waste of others, during the winter months there would be about 30 Black headed Gulls what would come & the Crows would see them off. Nothing goes in the bins if its edible, ok things like Veg they will not eat but even the Chicken carcase cut into 4 the Crows take it & the Magpies strip it. This has no effect on my hung or table feeders, so just think before you bin it (Don't Leave This Sort Of Food Over Night, Put Out In The Morning)

Hi Snowy such a great post. It's true we are such a wasteful society. I'm sorry to say but without the human population (well at least the majority of it )the planet would be squeaky clean! We have eagle eyed gulls and crows around who will quickly devour any bits they can get to. Super efficient recycling Like you say you have to be careful not to leave things overnight.

Great post Snowy, I always do this with left overs, I do however leave some overnight on the shed. We have a little family of mice that come up the shed from next doors garden and its always funny to see them taken the food away with them back down the shed I know people would be against feeding the mice but there outdoors and harmless so I just give them bits just find it cute and funny watching them grab the food and run with it
