Lovely little piccie of May's eight chicks with gaping mouths, all asking Mum to feed them first! So far so good for them, so long may that continue Sammi.

Just a quick update on progress. Still no sign of Boris but May is working tirelessly to keep them fed. Looks like she is down to 6 chicks and I think more will drop by the wayside. She uses the mealworm so I will try to keep them topped up. 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

Oh Sammi not the sort of news I wanted to read. Wonder what has happened to Boris? So much we cannot fathom isn't there? Anyway fingers crossed May will cope and as Beechnut says sustain the ones still alive nothing else you can do.

Oh Sammi Just read this, What is happening this year?! Single birds, healthy chicks just dying for no reason! 2019's been shockingly bad for a season for a alot of people. Come on May! If she's using the mealworms she could get all 6 to fledge Hopefully she does and you don't lose any more!

Thanks all for your good luck wishes for May. I think the losses were inevitable really. Anyway more mealworms arrived today, the first of my super saver so plenty to get them through if she can keep up her energy. I've tried to enable a trip wire counter just to see how many feeds she has to bring in an hour. I think it's too much to ask from my aging machine😭 P.s. Malcolm and Elizabeth's box 1 looks ready to fledge.😊

Don’t loose heart Sammi. We had a lone male raise 8 chicks the year before last. He fed them mealworms constantly and because he didn’t have to go far for them it gave him extra strength. He even brought them all back to the feeder after fledging, we could see the chicks being fed from there.

Good luck Sammi - May is very lucky to have you caring for her, buying all those extra mealworms! Hopefully all your efforts will be rewarded with all chicks fledging successfully into the Big, Bad, Cruel World!

Thanks Sue...glad you saw Malcolm and Elizabeth's fledge. Thanks Chris ....isn't it amazing how hard one parent will work to keep them going. Did your male roost with them too to keep them warm? Thanks Diane they are all looking good today. Not sure if my new supply will last the week. Lots of hungry sparrow around who seem to be able to stretch their necks to get the mealies from the Scott feeders. Im not having much luck with the tripwire counter. Maybe I haven't got it set up properly. Anyone any idea what I might be doing wrong with the icatcher console? It is likely though it's just beyond my PCs capabilities

Yes Ann. I think if they get some healthy chicks out they have to be awarded a gallantry medal each.

The pics above are of May with the single mealworm and I think the other is possibly Boris taking many mealworms for his other nest (fledglings?) Whoops I think the pics are too large.

Thanks Sue. Normally they only take one mealworm at a time to the nest. So I am thinking the wholesale mealworms must be going to fledglings? I know the sparrows take mouthfuls as do the blackbirds? May is still working hard. She gets them all fed and then attends to the housework. Sometimes she doesn't wait for the bottom deposits
