More sparrow action this morning - he brought in all sorts of stuff, including a load of what I think are field maple leaves? She then brought some stuff in too, but I think only stuff that he had taken outside to her (he would pop out of the hole with a leaf in his mouth and she would return with the leaf a few seconds later..). Anyway, definitely more action and material than I have ever seen before, although they have gone off somewhere now and not been seen for a couple of hours. Here she is amongst the leaves!

I love the sparrows Matt. I hope they settle on your box. Thanks Sammi, I hope so too - but today they are nowhere to be seen! Birds eh?! Hopefully they'll be back.. it is hard to udnerstand the motivation sometimes, this pair in particular have spent ages in and around this box for the last week or so, so why would they then not commit? Or perhaps they are just having a day off..

I wonder too about their motivation sometimes. I mean why clear out a dead wasp and bee that a spider has captured and then make no attempt to nest there? One thing for sure is that we will never know the answers

Anything become of the sparrows Matt? Still visiting every day Paul and bringing more and more material in, but then at about lunch time they stop until the next day. Maybe this is just normal but goodness me they are dragging it out!!

Half way there then Matt - great photos.
Hope they all hatch, there seems to be several large clutches of BTs this year.
Anyone else on here got GTs? We don't seem to have the numbers that we had before my lean years!

Excellent news Matt - how exciting! Hopefully the abundance of green caterpillars that I've seen here, and I think Paul is seeing with his, will apply to your local area too. Fingers crossed for those chicks.

I count 9 babies this morning and I can't see the 10th egg - so either baby or egg is still there somewhere, hopefully. Dad is back on the scene, which is great because I hadn't seen much of him during incubation, and both parents have found the mealworms - although they seem to be feeding more of the green caterpillars for the moment and eating the mealworms themselves. That will change I am sure.

Absolutely superb Matt. Don’t think my parents have found the mealworms yet - either that or they are ignoring them. Seem to be finding enough food though so that’s all that matters. So strange to see a nest without much in the way of soft material but they look cosy so your mum obviously has decided to be a trend setter. Sue

Lovely picture Matt, Plenty of caterpillars coming in here aswell, I don't know if ours are simply ignoring the mealworms but nature food seems plenty right now I am sure when they are more demanding they start on the mealworms

Great Matt. I think they prefer the green caterpillars, must be more nutritious.

Sorry for so few updates, keep having to go away for work which is really annoying!! News is that all 10 are hatched and doing well. Both mum and dad are very attentive - having an attnetive dad is a first for my broods so that is great. They have also found and are enjoying the mealworms. Less good news on the sparrows, who seem to be spending less time looking at the box now despite having been in and out constantly for a month and almost filling it with nesting material! We'll see.. but it is getting a bit late? Here are the babies as of this morning - can just about count the 10 beaks!

So pleased all going well with the chicks Matt. Shame the sparrows don’t seem to be playing ball but at least you have this lovely nest to watch. Sue
