Well folks haven’t been on here for ages as nothing to report BUT, decided to turn on my camera box this morning to see if any signs of anything interesting at all and low and behold an early Xmas present for me. As most of you will know I am now living in a flat on the fourth floor with just a balcony for a garden. My hubby reluctantly put a bird box up for me but he nor I ever expected truthfully to ever have any interest. Since we’ve been here we have seen only a handful of blue tits and none as high as our balcony. Today however, a pair decided to pop in and give me the pleasure of about five minutes of activity, including a nest wriggle. I honestly was gobsmacked. In truth I don’t expect it to come to anything but it has given me a thrill and made my day. Roll on spring. Merry Xmas everyone. Sue

Hi Sue I’m so happy for you, it was well worth putting the box up even though you thought it was a no no Well they sure have proved you wrong, they know it’s there so I think it’s on their radar now and probably well sheltered and away from any interference from other birds or cats You certainly have an early Xmas pressie I’m keen to hear your news roll on the spring 👏🏻🎉🌸 Happy Xmas to you and your family 🎄🎁🎅🏻⛄️ Happy Christmas and new year to everyone of my bird family friends 🎅🏻🎄🎁⛄️

Hi Karen and Ann, thank you for your comments. I will certainly keep my fingers crossed but cannot see it coming to anything as people often on balcony above and below. I have two boxes now in the grounds , one on a fence and one on the back of a garage which may have far more likelihood than the balcony (however neither of these have a camera in so it’s a case of carefully watching if and when the time comes). A very merry Xmas to you both and hopefully your gardens will soon be filled with birdsong and new life (not that I am wishing life away 😂) Sue

Hi Sammi, certainly did make my Xmas. They have continued to visit and it has been lovely but whether they will return and actually nest remains to be seen. Hubby may not be too happy about being banned from sitting on the balcony come the spring mornings ha ha. Hope things happen for you in the coming year. Sue

Hi Sue, I'll see if I can find a nice pattern for a camouflage onesie for hubby so he can sit out if you get nesters

Yes John, visiting is still taking place. Just a brief visit most days - sometimes just the one bird and sometimes the pair arrive. Its as though they are just keeping their eye on the box and keeping their options open. Who knows with these little birds. Sue

I know it’s very dark, but it was a dull day and I had to record with a phone from pc. Terrified that things will now go wrong but felt I wanted to let you all know what was happening. This is box on my balcony that I never thought would ever attract birds. Too early to get excited but am loving the signs. I do have a light in the box but not sure if I feel right using it just to get better pictures for me. Wish me luck. Sue

J Thank you Paul and Sammi. As you can see balcony is fairly long but quite narrow. The action is taking place right outside our window so , YES Paul, hubby is definitely banned from here for the foreseeable future . As we all know things can and do go wrong so trying to be realistic. Everyone told me we were far too high up for birds to use a box here. As you say Sammi, always worth a try. Sue

This is great! I used to live in a tower block 11 floors high and I once saw a blue tit enter a gap in the brick work near my kitchen window, what it was doing I don't know but it was quite a surprise!
