Fantastic photos Ann of all the chicks, you got some lovely shots of them. However, after reading your post above - what a shame about the dead chick, so nature still kicks us all in the teeth when she feels like it.

i just had a big kick in the teeth, just back from the food shop and 2 chicks on the floor, jenny is still going in the box, not sure if that is the very end. what chance i wonder if she lays again this morning i noticed jenny going in with food then out in out with same food, so i sensed then something was wrong At 17 30 the two chicks were turned out by the parents, but at 17 15 a poo sack so removed, so i need to watch this evening to see what's happening i think the heat has been a big factor

Oh Ann, How tragic are the chicks dead or they still alive where you can pop them back into the box? I think this is probably her last brood Ann, I know Wrens start breeding in April and only have two broods, So I think maybe this could be jenny 2nd brood with being late on? I think they also use different nests for different broods with the male making up to 7 / 8 nests at a time.

they were dead Paul, the box comes down and gets thrown away, i will just have to watch the parents in my garden i will only be leaving my camera box up now ready for next year.
jenny is just in the box resting her beak showing out of the hole she must be very confused and worn out,

I'm guessing she still as the 1 chick left though Ann? In your pictures can see 3 chicks if 2 have died must be atleast 1 left for her to brood.

Oh sorry Ann, I didn't know about the one this morning. Oh that is so sad to think they died from falling from the nest aswell, Nothing you can really do about it or can't be helped its so sad. I hope this was her first brood and she tries again in the same nest for you Ann, Hopefully if she does this doesn't happen again!

Ann I am heartbroken for you . Wish there was something helpful I could say but there isn’t. Feel so upset for you - after all you’re watching and waiting and it comes down to this..... Do you think there could be any more chicks in there Ann or do you think this is it? Maybe the heat has been too much for them, looked like they were eager to get to the hole - maybe for cooler air. So so sad. Big hugs from me Sue
