Hi all! just thought I'd get my thread started for this year now there is more action, nest is in the process of being built and shaped by the female at the moment. photos.app.goo.gl/hDBbLDvXWCsx6V6C9Lovely to see all the other nests progressing on here too I also have a blue tit nest which is more or less completed that I am keeping an eye on but certainly better than last year when it was started and then abandoned very early on!

Great stuff! I still don't know if my starling is going to commit or not - after a few weeks away, he is back every morning and bringing it scraps of material and the odd leaf, so hopefully he will find a willing female soon!

3 eggs for the starlings today, I have no lighting in the box so very reliant on the sun which is shining on the box in the morning to get a good pic, I managed one this afternoon where you can just about see the three eggs if you up the brightness on the display to max!

Wow that was quick! Lovely to see! Great stuff. I was surprised to see them too this morning! I noticed a little blue discarded egg shell down the side of the house so thought I'd look and low and behold

The 5th egg has hatched today but it's amazing how much smaller it is to the other 4 already after 24 hours, both parents diligently feeding so hopefully it will catch up, unable to take a pic today as it's too overcast so the box is too dark but can hopefully get one soon

Good to see! We have not Starlings for a number of years in our box and I miss their raucous behaviour. Up here the Starlings are just building.

An update from today, 4 chicks still going strong but I cannot see the smallest 5th chick so I assume it didn't make it we had a magpie attempt to access the box yesterday but thankfully it wasn't successful, I was going to report on another nest, we have woodpigeons that were nesting in the bay tree this year for the first time, they had been sitting on eggs for about 5 days or so but yesterday the magpie put a stop to that did the same to the dunnocks last year and the blackbirds a year before, my only safe birds are the ones in boxes sadly. Anyway here are the starlings from today drive.google.com/file/d/12-FczHix9bQKaH8DP5AWQiRyBwxadBGq/view?usp=sharing

Oh no! That's really sad news. I guess magpies have to do what they do as part of the chain Really hope all carries on well with the starlings.
