Just realising there could be another week of this - one egg a day, up to a max of maybe 10? Then another couple of weeks incubating. I'm also curious how the eggs that are laid early on don't end up being incubated by the roosting activity, while the rest of the eggs are in the process of being laid. Maybe roosting doesn't produce the right temperature? I've read somewhere that when incubation begins the female pulls feathers off her abdomen to create a patch of bare skin which transfers heat efficiently for incubation purposes. Not much to report from today after the 2nd egg excitement. The fussing and fiddling is all very much reduced and now only really happens in the hour leading up to roosting time. She's spending hardly any time in the box during the day at the moment. Here are a few more pics - early morning egg reveal, followed by a few from this evening at bedtime

Looking great Pete! I missed your earlier egg posts somehow. Yes, they are very clever and somehow the eggs usually all end up hatching within a day or two of each other. 10 is certainly not impossible, I had 11 in my first nest and people have had even more (although not too commonly I don't think). Last year I had 7 which is a fairly manageable number. So now you have maybe 3 - 3/12 weeks of not much happening before it all kicks off for real!

Thanks Matt for the info. Can’t wait for the egg hatching- the nest cup seems to be located in the spot where the camera’s most in focus, which is quite lucky.

Egg-o-meter has gone up another notch today. She had them all well covered since early this morning, and only just revealed them this evening during her bedtime routine. So, still an egg per day - #3 and counting...

Scores on the doors: FOUR I'm trying to work out the precise moment these are being laid, but it's very hard to tell with the camera looking directly down on her. I have a feeling it happens when she's almost dozing as she's in the process of waking up from the night's roosting, but I'm not entirely sure. She's hidden them very well now after several trips back and forth with extra feathers/fluff/hair

I've had to wait all day for a glimpse of the eggs today - she had them so well covered from early morning right through to when she returned for bedtime this evening. Egg #5 now added to the stash. What do we think about warm sun on nest boxes? There've been a few hours today and yesterday where it's felt quite warm in the sunshine, and I look up and notice it shining onto the side of the box. Can't help wondering if it's getting a bit warm inside. Hope the eggs are ok.

The temperature should be OK, my box is like that most years and they seem to be fine. Only very hot and prolonged spells usually effect it 🤞

Great pics Pete, she is going high, lot of mouths to feed, still awaiting the first egg here, they certainly get the leg over every day though!

Haven't had time to observe any BT leg over activity here , but I have a suspicion it's happening around roosting time when the male brings her a bite to eat and she follows him out of the box for a short while before settling down. Also, news just in: neighbours a couple of doors away now have a BT nest build happening, at an earlier stage than my tree box. There've always been three BTs around the place, and I've suspected for ages it's two females and a male. So I think this new nest could be the other female. For quite some time my female's been defensively chasing off the other female of the three if she comes too close to the tree box.
