#7 hatched about 4pm this afternoon. Just 4 eggs left unhatched now. Both mum & dad very busy. Can't help wondering about the food they're bringing in though - a lot of the time it does look awfully large for the chicks to handle. I guess they know what they're doing I think I might be on a mealworm mission tomorrow!

Your photos and videos are amazing Pete what camera do you use? Thanks Linda It's a Green Feathers wifi camera in their 'delux' nest box, with their LED daytime lamp fixed inside the roof of the box. Instead of a DVR for recording, I use a raspberry pi - it records the camera video feed in 2 minute chunks so I end up with lots of little video files. I play these on my laptop using the player that comes with Windows. Whenever I see a nice image I pause the video player, move the slider around to find the sharpest frame, and then press ALT + Prt Sc on the keyboard, which takes a screenshot - then I paste that into Microsoft Paint and save it as a jpeg photo file. The Green Feathers wifi camera is a bit blurry when there's a lot of movement going on - I have to be quite careful with the video player slider to find frames where everything's in focus and sharp. For close-up shots I just select a smaller area of the video image on the screen, and save that as a jpeg photo. When it displays on this forum it automatically gets blown up in size, which is quite handy. Also seems to look best on a smartphone screen.

Pretty sure the final addition to the family emerged this morning - purely based on egg eating evidence, and the fact that no egg is now visible amid the seething pink mass

Day 5 of hatched chicks - and they're definitely growing fast. All 11 still present and correct as far as I can make out after some careful counting. Mum's now struggling a bit to contain them in the nest beneath her when she's settling down to warm them. Here's a fairly long video of how it's generally going at the moment - lots of shuffling of chicks in between feeding moment, and some poop-gathering duties. The parents are tending to fly off with the poops a bit more now, rather than scoffing them immediately They're bringing in what look like green caterpillars fairly regularly, but they're still a bit too big for the chicks to cope with, so there's lots of prolonged passing round of the caterpillar from one mouth to another, with a bit of parental chewing and nibbling, which looks as if it makes the caterpillar more digestible until finally the lucky recipient gobbles it down! And another video just for the sake of it...
