Thanks Elle One of my side view boxes is getting abit of activity today even with the wind and rain, Only some outside visits. I kept hearing a bird land on the hole and knocking it with its beak, Thought it was a blue tit. However just then a great tit popped its head in, Nothing as come inside the box yet hence no pictures / videos of this. But it seems like a great tit is taken interest! I have never had a great tit nest in one of my camera boxes before, We don't get many around mine literally only ever see 2 of them. So not expecting it to lead to anything but please its having a nose about anyway! Sparrows have totally stopped nest building for over a week now, Can't blame them really with the weather change. Female still roosting every night and visits from male / female everyday fixing the current material but nothing added.

Just turned my boxes on and first piece of moss as arrived into the purple tree box, Wasn’t there yesterday so guessing it happened some time this morning! Windy and raining so very surprising, just need to find out who brought it in now, my guess is a blue tit though.

Thank you Diane, Sue, Karen, Matt. I have spent the last 2 hours watching the box and nothing, I need to go out now wont be back till later. What is the odds that that piece of material is 1, added to with more 2, been moved around so something as been in? Oh well, It will show itself soon enough I suppose. Just glad we have a first piece of material.

Can confirm it’s a pair of blue tits rather scruffy looking female so she’s going to be easy to point out I’ll post video tomorrow here’s some screenshots of the video though for now.

Awe how wonderful,I hope that scruffy appearance means she has been round the block a few times and is an experienced parent! Have you any names in mind Paul.

Karen, I don't really pick names until get way into nest building. I don't like to jinx it However when I post video tomorrow you'll see one side of her face is really tatty probably due to mites. So if she sticks around so far so good with material added I might call her "Tatty" and don't know about the male he is good looking bird looks pretty young aswell.

Some video clips from yesterday, The end clip when the female comes in alone it looks like shes about to do a nest wriggle then doesn't. Been back all morning today but was heavy rain overnight until 7am so no new material added, I guess she is just claiming the box maybe? We will see. Video here Here is a picture of the female, Look at that poor Tatty face god love her Here's the male who looks young and handsome compared to her like beauty and the beast but swapped around Also some visits to the hole of one of my side view boxes, Maybe its by the great tit again? God knows but alot of pecking the hole and flying off. Awaiting something to enter.

Great little video clip Paul & photos. You may call your female Tatty - hmmmm - where have I heard that name (or half of it!) before so I'll see if I can find out.

Ha - whenever I think of tatty birds I am reminded of our old girl from last year. She had a pretty rough run of things, what with Mr running off, and looked just awful by the end of the season! This great pic by my next door neighbour just about sums it up: Sorry Paul for thread derailing!

Loving both them Tatty heads, Atleast they have an excuse for feeding chicks, What is her excuse she hasn't even started building yet. I do believe its this bird from 2017 (I'll attach picture below off old video) it was also my tree box she had a real tatty face and a big bald patch on back her head. 2017 I had 2 blue tit nests and a sparrow, There was another blue tit nest around 20 foot away from this on a house wall, So alot fights happened and this tatty one didn't nest that year. Maybe this year will be her year? Here's the picture from 2017 if it is indeed her atleast shes had some kind of "glow up" the bald patch as gone !

Tatty or not Paul, as long as she gets the job done who cares. Looks, as they say, are in the eye of the beholder. Bless her. She must have something going for her cause she’s bagged herself a handsome male. Looking good for you. Sue

Wow! I’m so pleased that you’ve at least bagged yourself 1 nest at least Paul , it certainly does look like your Tatty from 2017, hopefully this time she may be a bit more mature and confident to fight for her new home, unlike a couple of years ago eh? when you look at Matts old bird, yours is a stunner I think I’m usually 2/3 weeks after you Paul, so I might start getting some interest soon. Long may she continue for you Paul Elle xx
