Such a beautiful pic of a little chick with a huge gape Hope they all do well Taz. Thanks Sammi, they are cute. They seem to be feeding well, still only 5 hatched so far. Doubt the others will hatch now, but they have hatched a day apart before now 🤞🐣

There is a strong chance the other 2 will hatch Taz, I’ve had chicks hatch 2 days after the others and go onto fledge successfully 🤞

Well, 7th egg was still there last night. Today though, they're are definitely 7 chicks. 2 look tiny compared to the others. Can't believe how fast they grow. Sandy is doing a great job though and they all look well fed so far.

Sounds like Sandy is doing a good job there Taz. Maybe this new fella will eventually lend a hand with the upbringing, if not let’s hope he feeds Sandy to allow her time to care for the chicks My son watched as one of the parents of his great tits was predated yesterday, he thinks it was the male. Did not see other parent for rest of the day so was very worried. However, he saw two chicks fledge this morning before he left for work (whether out of hunger or the lone parent thought best to get them away from the nest box we don’t know). Wonder if these birds know how much we fret over them Sue

Yes, Sandy is doing a great job, we always make sure her larder is full 😂, amazingly they all look like they're growing nicely. I'm sure they haven't a clue how stressful this is for us uprights. We will be lost again one they fledge 😭

Just an update on this grim, wet weekend. One of the chicks looks unwell, doing strange movements as if it's trying to free itself. It's constantly struggling, Sandy had been rummaging under him so I don't think he is stuck. He often had a problem with food too and Sandy will take the worm of his beak a bit later.
Nothing I can do about it really, just have to let nature take its course
🙄

Sadly, our 7th chick is no longer with us.
Couple of positives today though. 2 chicks came out of the nest cup, and got fed by Sandy while outside. They're both safely tucked back in the cup now though
Noticed today an increase in green caterpillars, Sandy has flown off in a different direction, and always comes back with the caterpillars. Yay.

Sorry to hear it Taz, but it is rare for them all to make it, and it sounds like this one has been unwell for a while. Best of luck to the remaining six!

All 6 chicks feeding really well, still being supplemented (heavily) by mealies but some juicy caterpillars being consumed too. 2 chicks regularly hop out of the nest cup and sit on the side. I guess it gives the other 4 more room. The main thing is they're all being fed regardless of being in/out of the cup.
