Well, I thought she had been fully incubating, but sandy has laid another egg this morning.
They seem to notice me putting the mealies out, they were in the cage before I had left the garden. Usually the Robin gets the lions share, but the last feed they managed to get all they could eat 😁

That’s great Taz......so what’s the final count now...8? Thanks Helen. Final count is 7,and is now dutifully incubating them. Danny is feeding her regularly too. They are both quick off the mark now with mealworms, I think they're keeping up with the Robin 😊

Nice manageable number, they won’t do you out of house and home buying the mealies. Keep up the good work Danny ........

This morning I have seen a new aggressive male in the tree.He has not worked out how to get into the cage feeder yet though. He has peered into the nest a couple of times and Sandy looked defensive. Danny is nowhere to be seen 😭 and so everything has changed. Sandy will no longer go in the cage feeder, and is off the nest more frequently in search of food (or Danny). This is not looking good 😔

Danny was feeding really well in the cage, but this male cannot seem to get in and has not fed in the feeder at all. They're not hanging around together, which they always did and his actions look different too. I'm not totally giving up on him, sandy now only sits on the nest for 5 mins then is back out looking for food. Before now though she would have polished off the mealworms. 🤔

Fingers crossed for Danny's return, Taz - they really do put us through the wringer, don't they? I've tried to change the way I think about watching my boxes a bit now, we are just observing what happens and, whatever that is, would probably have happened anyway. It is hard not to get emotionally invested though! My only nest before this, the male went missing just as the eggs hatched. She managed OK, though, although not all of the chicks made it. She never found the mealworms, though. Has your female found them herself yet?

She does go in the cage and has the odd worm, but nowhere near as much as she used to, she's off the nest more than on it too. Hatching should be next Friday....we will see 🤞

Hope everything turns out well for your nest. Honestly they do stretch us to the limit. I hope the weather just warms up. If it does get too cold apparently the production of the nesting hormones stops or that's what I've read Down here in the wind it's been pretty cold. Such a contrast to last year.

Thanks Sammi, it certainly has turned cooler. She seems content, she has been with the new male today, but I doubt he will feed her or the chicks of they hatch. Not given up hope yet though 😉

Just wondering Taz, if she’s with a new male could she possibly lay another clutch of eggs along with her existing ones

Just wondering Taz, if she’s with a new male could she possibly lay another clutch of eggs along with her existing ones I must admit Helen, that has crossed my mind too. Not happened so far, they do seem to have paired up though. I'm calling him Biff after the bully in back to the future.. I watch too many films 😂
