Hi all The ever caring Paul contacted me today to enquire as to my well-being, and so thought I best update you all at the same time (for those that are interested that is ) i can honestly say I feel absolutely wonderful thankyou considering I have put on 2 stone But only myself to blame (well hubby as well) damn lockdown! As you may know first lockdown last year I was instructed to shield as I have a lung condition due to smoking from a very young age, stealing them out of my dads cig packet , but I also stopped smoking after 43 years at the beginning of the feb 2020 because we knew we had our grandchild on the way, but unfortunately due to stopping, I was then told I would be able to return to work as I was no longer classed as Extremely clinically vulnerable (gov.uk guidelines) so I went back to work before crimbo and although it took me a long time to get my anxieties under control (as most will know I work in a school) I am absolutely pleased I did as maybe I wouldn’t have been able to get out the house!!! Not because of my anxieties but because I wouldn’t have fit through the door if I’d have carried on shielding and putting anymore weight on (Sorry for the humour but we need a laugh eh?,) well I could rattle on all night but I really don’t want to bore the hell out of you all After all that, on bird front I only have one rooster now, and not many birds seen at all in the neighbourhood So that was the quickest catch up on the bird front I will try keep bobbing in and out as much as I can so fingers crossed for everyone for the up coming season Stay safe and well everyone and thankyou Paul for the kick up the a**e to post Elle xx

back Elle, I have missed you, another Yorkshire Lass! I know what you mean about shielding & I'm pleased you've managed to get out of it. Unfortunately, my husband Gerry is still shielding & will be classed as vulnerable for the rest of his life (81) visits from district nurses twice a week, can't drive anymore & he broke his heart on Monday when we had to get rid of the car. Consequently, I can't get out either as I don't drive but don't mind too much as I can still do some gardening but not everything & my birds and frogs keep me sane!

Thankyou all for the lovely welcome back, still no signs of any birds of the small kind, plenty of huge ‘wood pigeons’ who have quite clearly been stuffing their faces (or should I say beaks ) like my hubby & I. oh Diane, I truly sympathise with your hubby having to give up his beloved car & of course his little bit of independence, it must be awful for you both, but I think we have to be thankful for just being ‘here’ with what’s gone on, and I think the birds may be greatful that you’ve got more time to devote to them instead of gallivanting about. My fingers are crossed that you get a nest Diane and then you can spend all your time chilling in the garden watching their comings and goings Elle xx

I'm with you Elle and so agree with your comments We are so so lucky to be able to watch nature as we do. I share mine with the village via fb and I'm so surprised how everyone seems totally smitten watching the progress of the birds. It must be a love that we all share and never tire of

Morning all i have some news, I have some moss in my angle box on the house, now I’m not getting too excited as I know how they may give up and move on. I haven’t looked at the cameras for about a week so I don’t know exact dates of when it started to be brought in so I’ll say from today’s date for my records. I don’t know what happened to the birds last year, but there were none about, it’s like they all knew to stay indoors , but hopefully this year may bring some luck I managed to get a picture but iv forgotten how to put it on so might have to re-read instructions Will keep you updated when I can Elle xx

Well the blue tits have been in and out intermittently today bringing moss in then taking in out again, as per usual. You all know I’m not technical and my set up is as basic as it comes so I have a scart connector with 3 scarts in it so I can switch from one camera to the other, so all I do is literally switch tv on and the boxes are there. Whilst iv been flicking today I noticed another box also has moss in it, but I hasten to add, I know this will not be potentially a 2nd nest cos it always happens when I get a pair building, it is of course a ‘decoy’ nest. I don’t know if we’ve spoke about this before or whether anyone else has this happen to them but it is always for me. This is my angle box with potential nest This is the decoy nest with poo stains from the great tit which was roosting but then cleared off! I don’t know how I got these pics on here, but they’re here so all’s good Elle xx

Brilliant news Elle, your set up is a bit like mine by the sounds of it, but to get recordings I connect it to my laptop via a video capture device called ispy, but I can also just view with no recordings via a tv too. Hope the nest carries on for you

Peacock did this Ella, She brought my first material of the season into one of the boxes on the house wall, Next day she started bringing it into the tree box. After 3 days of bringing material into both boxes she settled with the tree box, It happens to me each year aswell with atleast 1 of my blue tits.

I was with you Karen when you said your setup as like mine, but then you lost me after that when you mentioned ‘I spy with my little eye!’ well folks, my blutits have well and truly gone!, and took all her belongings with her . Got up yesterday morning to a full box of moss & I mean nearly a full box, she was in & out at super speed, now usually by this stage she doesn’t do a full empty, only the odd few pieces. Got up this morning, it’s absolutely freezing here, I switched on tv with excitement, wondering at what stage she would be at, considering her speed yesterday & all the wiggles, imagine the devastation I felt when I saw a completely empty box, and I mean every little speck, gone as I say the weather is freezing here so I hope they come back! Elle xx

Don't give up yet Elle, Our second female last year cleaned her box of material about 5 times, Its lucky i already had a nest because if she was my first nest I would of lost it! She did finally settle down mid April and the nest was fully build in 2 days and an egg laid straight after
