Quick update, the robins eyes are now open and their feathers are starting to come through, the GT has settled on nine eggs and is now incubating.

Pete, the little robin chicks are really cute & it's nice to know that they've opened their eyes & getting feathers. Nine eggs for your GT! The two years we had them nesting & chicks fledging successfully, we never knew how many eggs had been laid, but the year we found dead feathered chicks in the nest, there was only 5 I think.

Your GT is doing you proud Pete - I have accepted that my rooster is a male and that there will be nothing in my boxes - first year for some time that I've drawn a blank - so I will console myself in following your GT (and the robins) this year.

Great quality videos Pete, especially the GTs. Is 9 not a very big number for GTs? Particularly as a lot of them go on to have a second brood.

Pete, what a difference two days makes with the robin chicks they have really grown and such a lot of feathers now, they're really beautiful! Your GT nest is really well built & tidy as others have said & the lovely eggs look very cosy in it. Thanks again for all the clips & piccies now that you're back at work - are you pleased that you can get out to go to work now, or prefer working from home?

Thanks for your comments everyone but I have some bad news I'm afraid a fox raided the nest and took both chicks, I really don't know how he/she done it but was a very determined fox. This might be a stupid question but I do have a video of the whole thing would anyone want to see just how determined this fox was? I will NOT post the vid if no one wants to see it. Hi Diane yeah glad to be back at work I was unable to work from home as it's a hands on job, bespoke picture framing. I shall post some GT vids over the weekend.

Oh Pete! So sorry to read this, such awful news. I personally have no interest in watching the video, but I do wonder why a fox would put so much effort in (by the sounds of it) for what must be a mouthful of food at the most. I know its just "nature", but sometimes I do think we really traumatise ourselves doing what we do. Good luck with the GTs, and I assume Mrs Robin is OK?

Oh gosh How awful, you must be really gutted to see.it end like this, I dont wish to see the video. hopefully the pr of robins will have a second brood and hopefully be away from the fox. It’s good you have the great tits to follow, so keep the clips coming please

Such an awful shame the nest should end this way. It's nature's way I know but still always seems harsh. I'm glad ( wrong word really) in a way if was a fox and not a cat. I think they will quickly nest again and maybe it's why they do have more than one brood? I am interested to see the footage if only to see if there is any way to protect a nest from attack, as I lost a nest last year(probably cat related)but on the other hand I'm not sure I could watch to the end

So sorry to hear of the demise of your robin chicks Pete, hope the GTs are doing OK.
That's made my season even worse now, I was so looking forward to watching your birds (especially the robins) in the absence of nests in any of my boxes this year.
It's fingers well crossed for the GTs - 9 is quiet a large brood, they'll need a good supply of mealies close by to get them through to fledging.

Pete, don’t know how I missed this , so sorry for you and this little family. Nature is cruel to witness sometimes but I’m afraid when we observe them so closely with cameras etc it is obvious we will encounter things we wish we didn’t from time to time. Very sad indeed. Sue
