A couple more vids the second one is the last visit of the day, she was building from when my computer turned on ( 6.30am ), every few minutes with material till early afternoon then there were larger gaps between visits. Now the geek in me has to tell you that she visited the nest 326 times mostly with material. It might be a quieter day tomorrow as the weather forecast looks pretty lousy. Cheers Paul, yeah i am happy with that cos for the past week or two i hardly had any visits.

Thanks Ann, Matt, glad your enjoying the vids i'll post some more sometime today. The weather's rotten today rain and strong wind it has'nt put her off though she's still very busy. She's surrounded by sparrows as i type keeping out of the wind and rain as the box is in a sheltered spot

I'd be interested to see a wider location shot, Pete, as I am very keen to get a robin's nest myself next year! I have a box hidden in a jasmine bush (which itself had two old nests in it that I discovered when pruning back over winter). No interest at all from our resident robin though.

Lovely video Pete, is the box a bit skew whiff as we say in Yorkshire, really gonna enjoy watching this progress. I have a robin box in ivy but the ivy still needs to cover it as it grows, a wide shot like Matt says will be good to see it in context.

petesbox Lovely clips! And good sound, too. Sorry if you've already explained somewhere else, but what camera setup have you got trained on that box?

Hi Pete, i've got a wired analogue setup 700tvl camera and a seperate microphone i find the in camera mics can buzz sometimes probably because they are to close to the circuit board. It is all connected to my computer which has two capture cards in it for each nest box. I have a software program called Contacam which has movement detection, been using this for years easy to use and reliable it used to be free but now you pay for although its not expensive. The guy who made the software is always updating it so it is compatible with a lot of cameras and capture cards.
What setup have you got Pete?

petesbox Those 700TVL cameras look very good. How have you got yours installed in terms of weatherproofing? I've got a Green Feathers kit - wifi cam in one of their 'deluxe' boxes, with their daylight led. Seems to work well on bright days, but on days like today when the skies are dark and cloudy the daylight led doesn't seem strong enough to keep the camera in full colour mode - it keeps flipping to night vision every so often. I suspect the deluxe box is so tall, the light cast by the led lamp from right up in the box roof isn't enough. There's a phone app that complements the setup. Motion alerts and the camera live feed are all accessed on the app via (I think) a 3rd party P2P server - so essentially it's all very much like the sort of setup you get with an IP security camera. I've got a router by the garden window configured as a wifi access point, which is wired back to my main router. I've then got a Raspberry Pi 4 sitting next to the main router hooked to it via wired connection. I've set up the Raspberry Pi to continuously record the RTSP stream from the camera in 2 minute chunks as separate MOV files. All I need now are some nesting birds! Alas, no amount of geeky tech will summon them

Sounds like good setup Pete, i got the same LED light as you and have the same problem sometimes on dark dingy days but it does'nt seem to bother the birds. The weather proofing is a bit knife and fork but it seems to have worked, i purchased some small tupperware containers cut a hole out for the lens to poke through then screwed the camera and container with the same screw to a 3 wide by about 10 inch long peice of wood which in turn was screwed to the nest box roof. Also a bit of tape sealing the tupperware lid just to make sure, not pretty but seems to do the job. Still early days yet you might get more visits when the warmer weather arrives.

I shall certainly be watching that with interest Pete. I have modified my peartree box hoping for a robin this year, but currently there isn't any movement and the weather at the moment isn't conducive to anything but keeping out of the wind and rain!! My Wallbox has had a female rooster since last October and I've noticed over the last week or so, she's been starting to gradually cover the bottom of the box with moss, so hopefully something positive going on there - I think last year's nest was started around the middle of March so
