Brilliant Pete Lovely video, what a nest, it’s so perfect and neat, it’s almost artificial looking (maybe she ordered a ready made one online )

Pete, what a wonderful clip of them feeding & if it's 8 eggs which have hatched, that's a great number! A very neat nest I agree, mine were never as neat as that.

Oh Pete, I’m gutted for the Robin chicks and for you to have to see such a thing happening I know it’s nature but sometimes it is hard for us to understand how cruel nature can actually be, this is the unfortunate side for us to have all the ‘seeing & watching technology these days’. I’m rooting for the great tits Pete Elle xx

Pete, lovely clear videos & everything is going so well for the chicks (hungry little beggars!) The nest is still perfect of course - I wonder if the chicks will make a mess of its perfection when they get bigger & more demanding for food?

Glad your liking the vids Ann and your very welcome. Yeah there doing very well at the moment Diane, i'm giving them mealworms although they dont last very long once the starlings get at them, at least the GT's have found them. They seem to be finding a decent amount of natural food, spiders, caterpillars. The cup of the nest will get bigger as they grow but by my experience Gt's make a good job of keeping the nest clean, in the past i've even had a second successfull brood in the same nest box. Oh and i've also emptied the robin box and repositioned it higher up in the same bush, it is closer to the house so wheather they are going to like that i'll have to wait and see.

They are beautiful videos of the great tits Pete. The nest is so beautifully constructed.
I hope the new robin nest box position turns out successfully. I am going to move mine as high as I can this autumn and hopefully deter predators 🤞How high do you think would deter a fox? We have the occasional visit in our garden.

Its hard to say sammi but i've got mine about 8ft off the ground now, you don't wanna put it to high i dont think because i'm guessing they are not high nesters.

Thanks Pete. I've got plenty of ivy cover at that height on an old stone wall. Job for hubby in the autumn

This is true Pete, they don’t like to be too high, if it is I think they may not nest is it not possible to fix something underneath the box so animals like foxes cannot climb up? Elle xx

i've been thinking about that Elle, my idea is to to get some wide mesh wire about 3 inch squares, a thick gauge wire, and put it under the bush raised about 2ft off the ground covering quite a wide area and therefor not being able to get to the point were they can climb. Sammi, sounds good to me.

Lovely little family going on there Pete lovely videos I also think the idea of some wire of some sort would do some good, don’t know which way to do it for the best result, however, the fox will jump! Believe it or not our neighbour had a fox on top of his garage about 11/12ft high, it was trying to get in his garden to get at his rabbit . The fox must have done this ‘Parkour’ thing! It was one of those double takes cos we couldn’t believe what we were seeing, he had to put the rabbit in the garage cos it kept coming back till eventually it stopped. Elle xx

Quick update, the chicks are doing well and being fed the meal worms as well as natural food. I know what you you mean about the fox's jumping Elle they are good at it, i'll do the wire thing in the summer and see how it go's.
