Thanks Diane I have filled it up again this morning and taken it down for another period and both the robin and great tit have found their way in now and going between jar and box Sparrows seem to disappear once the main feeder is not there
I know p that it will be used so happy to put the globe feeder back for all birds
I’m on the look out to see if the great tits nest again they are busy feeding their young but think it won’t be long before they start collecting material let’s hope it will be one of my boxes

Ann - wonderful news & it's great that your perseverance paid off in the end As for the great tits deciding to have a second brood, let's hope it's in one of your boxes.

SPRINGWATCH Interesting on spring watch tonight they were saying 37% of blue tits nests chicks have died within two weeks and lots were saying they had no blue tits nested this year The resources of natural food ie caterpillars weren’t there on the trees, and the caterpillars got washed off the trees so blue tits missed out on the supply of caterpillars

Hope you get a nest Ann. As regards Springwatch..........Just as well we have our mealworms, otherwise there would be even less BTs.

Yes, it’s thanks to lovely people like everyone on here and many more keep the birds healthy and well fed otherwise there would be a lot less birds around It’s to late for a nest now to be honest

Interesting about the Springwatch statistic. Just over a week ago up I was sent a photo by a friend in Scotland of a pavement covered in dead green caterpillars - washed off trees by the heavy rain. On the other hand, there have been a few articles doing the rounds recently about blue tits & great tits doing well overall due to garden feeders, with a possible link to the decline of other woodland species such as marsh tit, willow tit, pied flycatcher, wood warbler and lesser spotted woodpecker (e.g. THIS ARTICLE) Hard to tell if this is a genuine problem or just a theory.

I’ve invested in a log box ready and hoping it will be used, as I’ve had no luck with my other boxes

Hi Ann So pleased you've got some bluetits around. Don't we miss the little beauties when they disappear We are very lucky to have them around feeding most of the time and today we had one looking around the box that the sparrows won last year. I'm wondering if I should put a smaller entrance plate on to avoid the battles of last year.
