I've removed the main feeder and put the new one on a small garden table below the usual one ,I've opened the lid to see if they go in from there once they have i will see how it goes for them to enter the holes, and close the lid fingers crossed it works

Good plan with taking the lid off to get them used to it, Ann. They've found it quick enough, anyway!

Just had a very heavy downpour lid was closed on box and I’ve been watching great tit has been closest to one of the holes but not entered I’m going to leave it longer to see if it works then I will just leave it out until eventually they work it out I will have to put the main feeder back up can’t see them go without

hi sue no takers yet, I've taken the main feeder down to re fill it, its needing doing most days while the birds are busy feeding the youngest and i seem to have gained sparrows as well. there is a choice of food still with the new feeder box and the one above this one has been up for a week and not seen it used yet. i got this one as the starling were getting the most use from my other jar which wasn't caged. i will see if they find either while the main one is down, i soon give in and put it back when i see them looking for it There’s to much choice

Hopefully it will be once they find the whole, the birds are still using the regular feeder, once it’s empty I tried taking it away for a short time, but soon gave in and put it back when I saw them looking and heading for the trees. I’m sure at some point they will realise how to get in

The birds are finishing a full feeder so quickly I filled it up in the evening yesterday. Mainly sparrows but still blue tits great tits and robins No sign of a bird now they know it’s empty new box on table below and no takers for any going in robin has just attempted it will take a few tries and work it out I’m going to wait until tomorrow to top up the feeder it’s the only way I stand a chance for the box to be used im must stay with the plan and hope it works on a positive note robin and great tit have found the suet cage feeder so they aren’t without food hubby has just made holes a bit bigger hopefully it works finally a great tit has been through the hole and found the food

Ann, not been in for two days but on the whole your update is good news as the robin may keep on trying to find a way in to it! Expensive for you but yes, keep on filling the feeder & stay with the plan. Good news about the suet cage feeder & those who have managed that one.
