Feeling positive for some action today I’ve switched on my camera today, I spent the whole day looking at the box and nothing. I’m ready for the action Just had the first visit from Joe Hopefully he can get Jessie interested to come into the box. Bring on a busy day

That's interesting, Ann, because Tony came into the box this morning here and did exactly the same! I've never seen a visit so long before, but he just came in and sat down, and stayed for over 4 minutes. Most of that time he was fairly still, and he didn't appear to be calling for Elvira at all - and she didn't appear. It also didn't look like she was waiting outside, because I can normally tell from the shadows/change of the light if there is another bird at the entrance.

That’s weird for both of us to have the same behaviour from the males The female was no where to be seen either and no calling from him. The other times he came in the box he was moving about a lot and looked anxious for her to come They maybe first timers and just learning

Yes, I’m sure Paul will enlighten us on the behaviour today. I’m excited for tomorrow now, never two days the same, nothing yesterday and today about 7 single visits by Joe What will tomorrow bring ?

I haven't a clue to be honest guys, I haven't seen much activity from males in the past few years here, The females always seem to bring themselves in or sleeping in the box so any visit by the male is brief. I have seen this behaviour of long visits by the females though, I always think they just want to chill in the box for a little but don't know any reason for it!

Thanks Paul I took it to be the male as all the other actions of going in and out and looking around for her

It probably will be the male in your case Ann, Its just visits from my males over the last few years have been very brief. So I see the behaviour more from my females when it does happen where you are seeing it from the male!

I’m taking a step back from watching my birds / box , nothing doing to give me hope for a nest. It’s so frustrating I know there is still time my last nest was April 2019 from the blue tits. I go by the trees at the back when leaves and blossom out, that seems to be blue tits cue as well. It’s the lack of birds that doesn’t help either. Just one pr of blue tits and pr great tits i think go to the trees to nest as no other person have bird boxes near me br]Would be good to know the reason why they don’t chose my boxes

Hi Karen It is frustration and as you say the weather doesn’t help the only positive I’m getting is knowing that others haven’t started with their blue tit nests yet

The two times I have had a nest it is always early to mid April so quite a ways to go.
