Loving your sparrow videos Sammi. Agree with others that the spikes are not terribly effective so hope the citrus works for you Sue

Major alterations going on this morning I am not sure Jack approves of the new lay out though. Jill is really picky. Seems she turned the house upside down just to get one piece out that she didn't like.

OMG, hope she isn’t going to be like the sparrows I had - built the nest into a dome so I couldn’t see a thing until the chicks were nearly ready to fledge. Fingers crossed she puts it back the other way so you will be able to watch the action Sue

Things are back to normal today Sue and hopefully they do let us see the nest as it progresses. It is taking for ever though. It must be the weather I remember you talking about that nest.

Oh no Sammi , please don’t let it be a copy of mine . Every time they did this I tried to press it down a bit and they just kept covering it up again. Sue

Hi Sammi,
Hope you stop the pesky cats, you'll probably remember my problems too from the past couple of years.
I've put carpet grippers on top of my box, seems to do the trick although we've moved the box this year.
Hopefully Jack and Jill will do well

Did she build a dome nest sammi or are you still able to see everything?

So folks I really don't know what's going on with J&J. The nest looks about finished and no work has been going on for a few days now but it is oh so quiet. When does the female lay? Does she normally roost overnight and then lay early morning? I can just see the bottom of the nest but the eggs I imagine will be under the canopy. I will post a pic of the nest at the moment when I can get to it.

Looking back over last couple of years mine have roosted up to 3 days before laying.

Here is the latest from today Jill popped in and went downstairs. Jack was at the door Do you think she lays an egg during one of these visits? I realise I know so little about our little sparrows nesting habits.

Well today absolutely nothing apart from a fleeting visit by Jack to the entrance. It feels like it's not going to happen after all.

No bluetits this year Paul I had a lot of interest in a couple of boxes but no takers so far. I think the lack of cover that had to be removed has had an effect plus the sparrows have the box where I had a female rooster for the winter. They are around the garden taking moss and mealworms but then flying off elsewhere .

Thanks for the thoughts folks. I never say never but talk about a quiet day here? A spider in one box, a lovely little mouse in the hedge hog box and this little tease from a great tit

Well me having the cameras off lasted all but a day absolutely no will power I noticed on the outside camera (that I kept on) a bit of activity at the entrance hole to the sparrow nest box and look who paid a few visits today. Not sure if mr or mrs (?) but I didn't see a partner close by but it would be a lovely ending to the of this particular box. BUT I am not building up hope. The bird seemed to spend a lot of time at the entrance glancing both ways as if waiting to be challenged by Jack but no sign of anyone objecting
