Looks like that female was eager to get in Sammi, I am guessing its a 28mm plate? I honestly can't remember. Do the garden nature ones come as a 32mm without the plate? I think we'll have to sneak a quick measure at some point? The male sparrow spent most of the day trying to get his lady in. The bluetit rooster is in again tonight though

come with a pack of 2, one 28mm and one 32mm, Our sparrows are easily in and out of 32mm so I think you could of used the 28mm! Or you have fat sparrows

Or you have fat sparrows They may well be Paul if they are suffering the lockdown cake weight gain like me. Diet starts today . Jack Sparrow has been on early this morning clearing up after the overnight roosting blue tit so he looks determined to give it a good go

Ooooh very promising sign hes cleaning it out Sammi! My little sparrows aren't around this year so far, Just the odd visit by a male. I think my must of died during autumn and winter, Which is sad after 5 years of nesting. so hopefully a new pair take up, I love my sparrows i find them more entertaining than the blue tits. i'll be keeping an eye on your box Sly on the blue tits if they get tossed out though! but that is nature I guess.

I'm thinking it was the one that came with the box (Garden Nature) but it may be that 2 different sizes came with the box and we can't remember making a choice so we will have to do a bit of stealth measuring

Sammi - I love the video of Jack clearing up, please ask him to come over to me & help me clean the house! It's so foggy here I can hardly see the garden never mind the birds or the feeders. I'm going to freeze to death this afternoon when a chap comes over to give me a quote for railway sleepers - just hope I can navigate over the grass to show him where I want them! Replacements for small log fencing we've had for years surrounding a gravelled patio area & now all the pebbles are falling onto the grass, so scared of them breaking the lawn mower.

Hi Diane It's strangely misty and cold here today but the sun is trying to peep through. I'm going to take housework very slowly up to the time we can have indoor visitors. Good luck with your sleepers

I hope you get new sparrows if you're right about losing your old friends. This will be the first time ever for us although they do nest in our neighbours eaves every year. The bluetits seem to be still looking at a box on the fence so fingers crossed they can all get on

Sammi, well two bits of good news from me (nothing to do with birds though) - got the quote for the railway sleepers & they are coming on Monday to do the job. I know they will scare off all the birds then, but better now than later, as sparrows & blackbirds have been making lots of visits to the ivy on the Big Shed for the last few days having a nosey. Second bit of news - frog spawn in the pond!

Good news on the sleepers work Diane and better now than later like you say. Oooh baby frogs soon. Lovely. Our sparrow is not giving up and spends loads of time pottering about the box. Cleaning and measuring. All he needs now is a mate. I think the fall in temp today dampened the mood with the lady sparrows. Yesterday there were 2 or 3 responding to his calls. Today he just looks out hopefully

Is this Frank and Nancy back again or a new pair. Whoever it is I hope there isn't a massive tussle over this box

Well since the fight the bluetit has still been coming to roost each night and popped in this morning only minutes before Jack Sparrow made his first visit of the morning I was so pleased they didn't bump into each other today . We have reduced the entrance on the box on the other side of the garden to 28mm and we may change another so we have 2 32mm and 2 28mm. I'm hopeful we may get sparrows on one side and bluetits on the other. Haha wishful thinking Today has turned cold again so a downturn in activity. Our robin though now meets me at the back door for his mealworms from my hand and Mrs hovers close by but likes hers from a little bowl. I'm sure they are going to nest close by but not in the box with the camera on

They are driving me mad. The bluetit still roosts every night and Jack Sparrow comes in and cleans up and then they alternate visits. Jill Sparrow doesn't make many appearances and is still to venture into the box but Jack continues to measure up and clean My robins seem to be multiplying. We have 3 at the moment but only one takes mealworms from me. Hoping we all see some nesting soon.

Jack is really taken with this box and spends time ever day cleaning and measuring all the angles. He just needs to convince a lady that it's the right place.
