Matt, Your nest was 2018 wasn't it? That was the year of "beast from the east" where the weather was freezing right until the end of March. Nest building didn't start here until 1st April that year either, I think it was a late year for everyone on the forum so probably down to that. Was the latest I have ever waited for first building that year aswell

It was 2018 Paul, so that makes sense. I can't see any reason we'd be later than you up in Liverpool normally, since we are so much further south.

I think more than just weather goes into it though Matt, You said your main trees in the area are oak trees, Here we don't have any of them but all the trees we do have the buds and leaves are now opening and showing green. Everything is timed perfectly here, Last year one of my blue tits was laying .eggs while the other was still building. That is two different blue tits at totally different stages in the same area, Thats why I always say don't give up hope until the very end of April. Because anything can happen with them, late nesters, nest disturbed, second or third females 1 male.

Yeah I'm still holding a bit of hope for the bluetits, I think it was seeing the sparrows and starlings building over the weekend that quashed my hopes for those ones a bit. A shame, because the sparrows in particular were in and out of those boxes all the time for the couple of weeks before.

Kate is getting in the habit of coming to roost quite early at around 5pm, where usually it be 6pm ish. She comes in and pecks about and is now beginning to do the odd nest wriggle during this time. But all day visits have stopped and have done so for about a week. Have you seen this from your female roosters Paul or any one?

I have just been on fb and a memory for today was Chico in 2018 started bringing nesting material, for some reason I noted it down as April. So can be any day really if they are to choose the tree box

Hi Karen, I think I always seem to have late starters, but there are a lot of factors to this but don’t give up hope Karen, you have plenty of nest boxes on offer and you’ve had some interest so fingers crossed you’ll get something.
Elle xx

Just thought I would check in, nothing to report really though, Kate is still roosting each night, which is the only positive as very little in ways of visits in the day, I am just hoping the fact she is roosting means she has intentions of using the box, time will tell
