Looks as though Kata has settled into incubating, she has been sitting quite a while now and normally she is away for the day. So if she laid one this morning she will have 8 eggs. It seems her and Hastings are no more and has a new man in her life, who I have named Steve in keeping with the Line of Duty theme

Erm from what I can tell it aint much of an upgrade Paul, have yet to see him bring her room service. Strangely enough Hastings has turned back up and has had the odd spat with him, so right now I have no clue who is whos mate, this year is such a strange one

Karen, well as someone else who watched "Line of Duty" from series 1 years ago until the last episode of the last series - you know that Kate & Steve had doubts about each other, so a tiny rift until they made it up, both having doubts about Hastings then! Anyway, I won't say any more as I don't do spoilers, but I will say that hubby & I were not impressed with the ending, so IF another series is done, we won't be watching as we think "time is up" for it.

Same here, I love the show but it has ran its course. Incidentally I tagged Vicky McClure on twitter about naming my female Kate after her character and she liked it

Quick up date on our Kate. She is on day 4 off incubation and appears pretty much on her own I'm afraid, Hastings has gone of with his other lady, he comes to feed and have seen him taking food off so I am a little sad as they has been paired since beginning of January the new male isnt much support he hasnt offered her any food while confined to the nest and I havnt really seen him around that much the last few days, I did notice when he poked his head in Kate was very agitated as though she found him a threat. Things really are strange this year I just hope she can manage with the worms I provide but it will be hard all the same. I just hope one of the males comes back to help, time will tell.

Fingers crossed, Karen. If she has found the mealworms, then perhaps all will be well. I remember my one and only nest from 3 years ago, and she brought 5 chicks (out of 11) to fledge, without a single bit of help from the male (who scarpered on day one!), and didn't find the mealworms either. So she should be in a better position than that, anyway. What is your estimate for hatching date? Do you work off 13-15 days from first day of incubation? Mine started on 7th, I believe (first "full" day on the nest, although she had spent increasing time over the days before). I am thinking 18th onwards..

Karen I also had a single mum bring up her 7 chicks on her own two years ago, she did a great job and only gathered natural food around, no mealworms.all should be well

Like Springtime66 and Matt say, she should be fine. Danny went missing on day 2 of incubation, all 7 chicks hatched. They are now over a week old and doing very well 🤞🤞. She's not naff any help apart from the mealworms we put out, which I know is a huge help.

Thanks for the reassurance folks, she has plenty of waxworms and mealworms so she will be fine. my estimate Matt is 24 to 26 May, her first full day on nest was 12th, so I have counted the 12th as day 1.

So sorry to hear your Kate is having to manage on her own Karen. Hopefully she will take full advantage of mealworms etc and show those chaps that a determined female can manage quite well alone 🤞🤞🤞🤞 Sue

Day 7 of incubation here in North Yorkshire, all going pretty normally, then a short while ago I heard sounds from the tv and went to investigate Kate was standing over the nest with a waxworm and chattering into the nest like they do when one hatches trying to get them to open their mouths, I cant see any sign of a chick and they are not due till the 24th! There was another BT looking in through the entrance hole, I didnt get chance to see who. Heaven knows what is going on now. Anyway she ended up eating the worm then sat back onto the nest.

Karen you know when you thought that she had started laying, but then you thought she hadn't? Are you absolutely sure she hadn't?

lol, I think she is a first time mum and she just anxious and unsure of when they will appear. But it does seem that a male is back and has been bringing her a morsel or two, not sure who though yet. Hastings I hope

Quick post on Kate, her eggs are due from tomorrow , Hastings appearances have been sporadic but he has been around quite frequent the past two days, with lots off courtship feeding, perhaps his body clock is saying his chicks are nearly arriving and is time to step up to the plate, the other male which showed her attention has disappeared. One thing I have noticed here there does seem to be a larger number of BTs in the garden from past years, lots coming and taking food away to feed chicks and pairs coming and feeding together. Population must be doing well and hopefully in a little while there will be 8 more joining them

So pleased to hear Hastings is around to hopefully help Kate . Also great news that there are so many blue tits around and that looks like the population is thriving, this weather just hasn’t helped at all. Can’t wait to see first pictures of Kate’s offspring . Glad all going well Karen. Sue

Good luck Karen! Also noted with bluetits here - I have at least one other female taking mealworms, eating me out of house and home! Hopefully that will mean lots of surviving babies for next year!
