Me too Karen, I've had more than enough drama for one year! As far as I can tell, no major incidents this morning but no egg either, although it might be hard to tell with the angle of the cup (pretty sure not tho, because she has carried on with a bit of building this morning).
I think I will get meal and/or wax worms in, Karen, if eggs start being laid. Should be plenty of time still. I did put mealworms out for my first nest, but she never found the feeders - or never used them, if she did. I'm more confident of that this year, because both of them are regulars to the normal feeders now and I can add to those. Need a starling proof cage first tho!

Just a 20 second video clip of the sort of thing she is up to this morning. Just slow and steady with the soft furnishings, which she has been doing for a few days now. Can't be too far off completing the nest now? That is dog fur that we tied in a bundle and hung from a tree

I'm wondering if she might have laid an egg this morning. It is going to be really hard to see inside the nest cup with the cup position and angle of my camera, so I can't be sure. This morning she stayed in the box much later than usual - last few days she has been gone before the lights come on, and I haven't seen her. This morning she was still sitting there, and fussing around in the cup quite a bit, before eventually leaving, bringing in a bit more fluff, then going off for the day. There was hardly any new material brought in yesterday, and pretty much all soft. What do people think?

Sounds like it is possible Matt, I have been watching the stream on and off and havnt seen her much and it crossed my mind if she had. They often lay an egg around 5.30 to 6 at least Molly did last year then then she would leave it to dry for about an hour then come back and cover it, so it sounds plausible

I started the stream again this morning, Ann, but I had it motion capture before that so I have a few vids of her early this morning. I'll leave it on overnight tonight, but I don't have IR so it goes pitch black (not usually missing much anyway, at night, I figured). Light enough to see in the box at about 5.30 this morning. Normally she has been gone by then, but today she wasn't.. I think if she lays enough eggs, it will eventually be possible to see them - then again, when she really nestles into that cup you realise just how deep it is! A drawback of the sideview, maybe, but it is great angle for the chicks which is what really counts!

Just so pleased for you Matt, sounds very likely that there is an egg safely tucked away in that nest. So happy Sue

Sounds promising Matt. That was Sue’s routine, gone early, but once she laid her first egg, she stayed till 6.30. She would always kick a feather back to make sure I couldn’t see anything ......Not sure about first egg, but definitely from the second one, she would uncover before bedtime and that’s when I’d get to see them....... Let me know when I can use the ‘Happy little yellow guy’ again

You reckon Karen from the behaviour this morning? Did you watch it? Very much the same as yesterday morning, which was the first morning she did it - so on that basis, perhaps 2 eggs now?

I rewound it to where it just got light enough to see and she was jiggling something around in the cup and she brought a little white feather in as if to cover them a little. Very similar behaviour from Kate this morning I posted a video up, but if she has laid her first egg then I didnt expect it as to me the nest doesn't look quite ready, but nothing would surprise me with the way things have gone this year, I reckon Kate is in her first year and so is all a bit new. Just watched a bit of your stream Matt and she had a funny moment with the feathers, stuck to her at one point looked like she had slippers on and shortly after for a second I thought I glimpsed an egg

I watched your vid karen, that sort of heaving on the nest is exactly what my girl was doing yesterday morning, looking perhaps like she was trying to strain something out, as it were! Judging by how deeply she sinks into the cup at night, I doubt I'll get any sort of clear visuals on eggs so will have to just guesstimate when she started laying and count the days. Might as well start with yesterday!

Does sound you probably have 2 eggs now Matt, like you say, you won't know for sure with that angle and deep cup 🤞

Just watched a bit of your stream Matt and she had a funny moment with the feathers, stuck to her at one point looked like she had slippers on and shortly after for a second I thought I glimpsed an egg Karen I saw that too as it was happening, but I didn't notice the egg. Might try and rewind later. She does seem to have something of an issue with feathers sticking to her feet in particular!! I have been resurrecting the meal-worm feeder that I made 3 years ago for my first nest. She didn't find it (or work out how to get in, at least), back then, so I have modified it a bit. Before, there were only holes in the wooden sides, and one hole in the plastic side. I have now drilled a load in both of the plastic sides, and swapped the wooden roof for a clear plastic one - hopefully make things a bit more visible this way. No mealworms yet, so I chucked a few cut up bits of fat block in there, and have mounted the feeder in the same place the fat block feeder was. The bluetits have been visiting, so hopefully they will adjust to the new feeder, and then it should be an easy transition to mealworms when I get them.
