Who knows, Paul? I do know that they have teased this year like no other!! Not sure I could even bear going through it all again next year.. Still, a glimmer of hope remains for this year and I guess we will know for sure in another week or so.

Fingers crossed for you Matt I'll look out for your updates! If anything picks up in your stone box here i'll let you know but so far I am in the same boat has you with her, Its lucky I have a fully built nest in my tree box or she would be sending me loopy! The fact that a fair few people still haven't had the first material though is making me think maybe they are waiting, Its just weird in my garden because I have a blue tit whose literally finished her nest but this did happen last year for me, Our tree box female was sitting on eggs when my second female was just finishing her nest! Looking back on my thread from last year she started really smashing nest building on 21st April by 25th April she laid the first egg so i'll see what happens

Hi Matt Let’s get this cold snap behind us, I’m sure that’s what the birds are waiting for, hold on to that I’m sure you will get them back on track, and nest building will commence. I am hoping for the same I’ve not seen anything happening even though the pr are about on the feeders and singing loudly in the trees

All I can say Matt is I feel for you but don't let it get your blood pressure up. I always say they are waiting for the moth caterpillar as it's so crucial so keep an eye on your Oaks!!! it will hopefully be the banana emoticon soon!

I hope things pick up Matt. I thought things were going well for you a while back. My bluetits have vanished into thin air almost ....well around the nest boxes anyway. They do still come to the feeders though. It is freezing cold in comparison to normal spring days and this hopefully why things have gone quiet although having said that it doesn't seem to have stopped the sparrows who are still building.

So did I, Sammi! But - she has returned again this morning, and started bringing moss in at quite a rapid rate over the course of about half an hour, and has once again disappeared.. so I won't try to guess what is going on, and won't celebrate yet, but I am still hopeful! Here she is this morning, and also the box as she has left it - she certainly brought in quite a bit more than she did the first time (about 4 days ago):

Unfortunately we can only do our best, and the rest is up to the birds. I know I felt that way last year for a while, but the disappointment wears off long beore spring comes around again.

Certainly a more promising sign Matt! Our second female brought a few extra pieces of moss into the stone box this morning, Haven't seen her since! It's all new for me, Paul. My only nest before, she came in one morning, did one wriggle, and started building immediately - and didn't stop for a week. This was 4-5 days of wriggles, before 2 minutes of building, 3 days away, and now another 30 minutes of building (after a few more visits with wriggles beforehand). She doesn't seem to be in much of a hurry, put it that way! or else she's got another nest on the go somewhere else as well, and this is some sort of backup plan..

Once she gets really stuck in you'll know she is serious Matt, It might just be the cold weather! But the fact she is still adding material and doing wriggles is a promising sign for it! Got everything crossed for you!
