These signs are promising Matt as the others have said I have everything crossed for you, you surely need to get a nest, god only knows how much hard work you’ve put in. If they don’t take up one of your nest boxes, I’d block the holes up and tell them to bugger off!!    Elle xx |

Thanks all. She made three quick visits with material this morning, and she hasn't been back since! Quite different from the other nest a few years ago - when she started, she was non-stop until the nest was done!

Nothing at all, Elle! She brought in a few lots of material yesterday morning within the space of 2 minutes, then left. She popped back briefly later in the afternoon, but without any new material. No sign today at all.. she is certainly putting us through the wringer!

This is it Matt, if you’ve got a dodgy ‘ticker’ this’ll certainly put it to the test cos if you don’t have a heart attack watching these birds, you know your hearts good! I think it’s got to be the weather which is the dominant factor, but it’s not too late, I always think if it gets to end of April & still nothing, we’ll basically, we’ve ‘shit out!’  Best of luck Matt  Elle xx |

I'm not sure I can actually bear it Karen! Not feeling super positive today as we have lovely weather and I've been watching sparrows and starlings collect nesting material - but no sign of Elvira doing the same, at least. I have seen her and Tony on the feeder so they are about.

Ive been watching out for my 2 as well, they are about all the time just go off periodically, but neither have been in the box other than Kate roosting, but at least they havnt started nesting anywhere else yet, the weather isnt great though, looking better tomorrow.

Our second females done the same Matt in the stone box, All thats been added is 1 piece of straw yesterday. Temps did drop from 19c to 11c here though so don't know if thats stopped her, or the stone box was just one of her choices  Time will tell over the next week or 2, Really cold from Monday though so not expecting alot until mid week onwards |

Sounds like the birds are debating on the do we don’t we, maybe they know there’s a cold snap coming and are just holding out for the right moment. Really really hope so for you Matt.

Nothing Paul, apart from she did land outside the sideview this morning and look inside the hole, but didn't go in.
It has been an absolutely glorius day, as well - sunny, no wind. All change tomorrow, perhaps they can sense that? But lots of other birds flying around with nesting material (sparrows and starlings), and the great tits have been busy on a ball of dog fluff I hang up for them, so they must be almost done nest building somewhere.

Its same for my stone box female Matt, Last material added was 2 days ago now. Visits (that I am seeing) are limited, I honestly don't know if this was just her "back up box" like my current female brought material into 2 boxes before cracking down with the tree box. I hope not because I would of loved her to use the stone box but like you said maybe they know the cold is coming?  I guess we will know for sure when we get more into April, Weather can only delay for so long before they "need" to crack on with it! Fingers crossed she smashes it when the cold few days go along with our second female who I am currently losing hope with |

Banana time? Elvira looks like she has finally taken the plunge this morning, with first nesting material at about 8 am. I was lucky enough to be watching the box from the outside when she brought it in, as well! She's only made a couple of trips since, but hopefully this is it
