Matt so pleasing to see they have finally decided to take up your box, enjoy the activity Bit early for bananas, it definitely hasn't happened yet, Ann! They are still looking around, but I am more hopeful than I was last week at least. Fingers crossed.

It's a rollercoaster - I honestly thought it wasn't going to happen two weeks ago, when the weather turned good and the visits stopped. Now my hope is back up a bit, which is the worst bit Elvira is yet to spend any real time inside a box, and no wiggles or anything, so at this stage Tony seems much the keener of the two. Let's hope he can persuade her!

They certainly play their cards to their chest, but the fact they are both still visiting has to count for something.

Well she's doing the rounds again, just visited 4 boxes (including starling) in quick succession, but spent nearly 3 minutes in the side-view box. This is the only box she has ever really spent time in, mostly it is just Tony trying to entice her into the other ones.. and, for the first time, a wriggle! - 3 or 4 separate wriggles over the 3 minutes, actually. Come on Elvira!!!

Meanwhile Tony still seems keen to entice her into the 3 hole concrete (she was waiting outside, but didn't enter): There's a bit of a weird thing going on, where Tony keeps trying to get Elvira into either of the 3 hole concretes, or the starling box, but she very rarely enters, and if she does she only stays a second or two. Whereas with the side-view box, Tony very rarely goes in (hasn't been in for weeks), but Elvira does go in (Tony sometimes waiting outside), and she stays in there for much longer. Any ideas?

Ha, thanks Paul! Fair to say I would be rather happy, but trying to temper expectations. Not much further action since.. although a GT visit to a starling box (a first) and Tony only rocked up to the feeder with 2 females in tow! I did get one nest wriggle last year, and no nest, so fingers crossed for now. I just rewatched the vid of this visit, and it was more like 5 full on wriggles over 3 minutes. Any thoughts on the fact that the female goes in this (side view) box, but Tony doesn't? Whereas all other boxes are the opposite.

Haven't a clue Matt, But our male wasn't very active in the tree box at first. Our female started roosting mid January and was bringing herself in and cleaning the box etc, Males been more active in the box now but at first it was her visiting alone most times before building started.

From my experience with GT's if you have more activity from a female in a box they are more likely to nest there.

Same with the blue tits here Matt, Our females always pick the boxes without the male. Its been a few years since I have had a male bringing a female into the box that shes not been in before, Its always the females spending time in them and the male finally clocks on and starts coming in aswell with her. So her interest in the side box is very promising don't worry where tony is going hes got no say in the box

More of the same so far this morning, with Elvira (2?) in on her own to the side-view, with wriggles, whilst Tony does the rounds on the two other boxes, plus the starling box. He did manage to get Elvira into one of the 3 hole boxes just now, but as usual she didn't show any interest and was only in there for a second or two.. A brief moment of excitement when a starling came to the starling box with a leaf in his mouth, but then he left again (with the leaf!).

Starling teasing you Elvira sounds a lot like my Kate, she is more keen on the tree box but Hastings spends a lot of time trying to lure her over to the neighbours whereas Kate will go into the tree box and do some wriggles and poo clean a little with little input from him he will just fly back and forth to the neighbours.

Oh dear, poor Matt - they are really leading you a merry dance unfortunately. Tony should just give in, swallow his pride & accept the fact that Elvira will decide where she wants to build a nest.

All quiet again after a flurry of visits this morning, so she is keeping us guessing for a while longer at least! In the mean time, here is a picture of Elvira from one of this morning's visits:
