Hi Ann, I am still getting daily visits from Tony, with only occasional visits from Elvira. Tony has popped into the box three times today. It is a frustrating time, so hang in there - whatever happens will happen! Still early - my only ever nest didn't start until the second week of April, and had been very quiet for a few weeks beforehand. I won't be getting too despondent until I've seen Elvira flying off somewhere else with nesting material in her beak (hopefully I am not tempting fate!!).

Hi Matt I know, I’ve been here so many times before, so I should know the score by now. How these little birds can take over our lives, I do so enjoy it even with the frustrating times. We are just longing for something to happen around us in these difficult times. Also the weather needs to pick up to lift our spirits. Good that the visits are still happening, and with better weather they will increase for you. hopefully while I’ve been out for an hour they sneaked a visit

Was only saying to Karen on twitter lastnight Matt, If you don't get a nest again this year i'll be actually gutted for you. After all the work you've put into your boxes for this year, I honestly have everything crossed for you! Still early days yet, Still getting visits so that can only be a good sign! I hope this is your year

Agreed, Paul - it would be a bit gutting. At the end of the day you have to be a bit philosophical about it though, so I'll try not to let it ruin my spring I'm still fairly hopeful anyway - it is early days, and only a few of us have nesting going on so far. Even though we are on the south coast, things don't seem to happen that early around here.

Yes Matt, Plus you've had very promising visits this year aswell where the female came alone! I always say don't give up until the final week of April if visits have totally tailed off etc so few more weeks before we get to that stage! I do have everything crossed for you though, You honestly can't do anymore box wise I don't think apart from take the neighbours ones down with my help!

Hi Matt I know exactly how you feel, it’s dropped to nil visits since last week, I have only tried to look occasionally and not be glaring for hours and end up disappointed. Unless they are tricking me and coming when I’m not about I’m not sure what I’m reading into it right now, my last blue tit nest was two years ago and 9 April. I can see the pr flying around together on the feeders and singing a lot. We still keep hoping, for change It’s a long wait Matt if it’s going to be April but worth it if we both get our own nests

I doubt it was a second brood Matt Bt's rarely have a second brood, maybe they had there nest taken over by another pair of birds, maybe my box was the only box that wasn't taken in the area and took there time to find it, we'll never know.

Wow Matt you’ve sure been busy whilst iv been away! I really cannot believe that you haven’t had the luck of a nest, it’s crazy. I have everything crossed for you Matt you deserve a nest for all the effort youve put in, some great boxes (if we can call them boxes) should call them Croxes (concrete & box) Elle xx

Well after a week of almost no visits, the last few days have been quite active - especially with Tony doing the rounds again. He has popped into both the 3 hole concrete boxes, with one in particular getting 4-5 visits a day, but no female with him (inside, at least) on those. Today he checked out most of the boxes, including about 10 visits to one of the starling boxes with female in tow (waiting at hole). Also checked out the stone-fronted side view, and the female (is it still Elvira? I don't know) went inside but Tony didn't. I was watching from the office and he was waiting outside. Also some brief visits still from sparrows and starlings, both to the starling boxes. I think something is changing because visits are at different times than they used to be, some as late as 6.30 this evening. Here's a pic of a female in the sideview. This is the box I'd like them to use more than any, I think, because I can watch it from my office.. Anyway, perhaps still a bit of hope here on the South coast, but I think it's got to happen soon if it is going to!
