Incubating has started today for Peacock, I don't know if she will lay an 11th egg tomorrow thats happened a few times after incubating started in the past. I'll let you know, However I had to share this little clip, Looks like our male is using the mealworms aswell Little clip of him coming in to feed her and having a look at the eggs

Paul - oh the little robin chicks are gorgeous (to me anyway) with or without feathers! As for little Peacock laying her 9th egg yesterday & still sitting, like you I'm wondering if she will stop at 10! All to both that the flipping magpies stay away from your garden.

I had 11 eggs in my one and only nest year, but only 5 fledged (male went AWOL soon after hatching, and she wouldn't take mealworms..).

Great clutch of eggs Paul, they know they’ll have plenty of food in your gaff, so they might as well keep laying

Lovely pics of the robin chicks Paul, and of course Peacock is doing so well, I wonder if the number laid is determined by food demand I wonder if there has ever been a survey on this Elle xx

Little picture update of all the nests in the garden... Firstly, peacock decided on 10 eggs, She's been incubating since the other day when I posted the video of the 10 eggs. Robin - all 5 chicks are doing amazing, Growing fast! Their diet is literally 90% mealworms at the moment, Both male and female robin have been using the feeder none stop! Some pictures of them Female robin shocked me a little by being on the nest when I went to get a picture of the chicks, Her behaviour was strange though, She didn't care of me being their and even pulled backwards like to show me her chicks and was tweeting at me not an alarm call it was so strange never seen nothing like it I wish I filmed it but I just got a picture and left and went back when she was 100% off the nest! Woodpigeon - incubating 2 eggs at the moment, they was off the nest when I was getting some pictures of the robin nests so that was a bonus! This is another bird that doesn't care how close I get it will not move off that nest at all which is good because I can get some nice pictures when the chicks arrive! Blackbird - currently got 4 eggs, I think incubating started for her! My blackbird nests always get raid by magpies each year so haven't got great hopes for this sadly but we will see its in the same ivy has the Robins and they are doing fine. We also have a goldfinch nest by the "big pond" but its so high up in the tree I don't fancy breaking my neck getting pictures they nested in the same place last year but it got raided by magpies so hopefully its a success this year for them thats my full update anyway, Very busy set of ivy by the little pond this year all 3 nests are so close together!

Hi Paul Fabulous pictures a very busy garden for you to watch and share thanks Interesting that both robins and blackbird nest each year in the same ivy bush here also Hope all the eggs hatch successfully this year and the mean magpie doesn’t rob the eggs

Paul - thanks for the updates on all your nests & super photos. My magpies are also on the prowl so I chase them off whenever I can, but I'm not always around of course. The thing which amuses me for the last week is the stand off between a stroppy blackbird who think he owns the fat balls! He sits on top of the crook holding them & made a mistake of attacking a pigeon below on the grass - viciously pecking him. The latter saw him off by just flapping his wings for 3 days but then got fed up, so he attacked back! Now the pigeon sits on the crook first & when the blackbird tries to attack him, he is given short shrift & flies off in a sulk.

Brilliant photos of all your nests Paul, I do hope the blackbirds get to raise their chicks, I think they always get a raw deal with being predated. Remember when I was gonna burn my fence down between us & my neighbour cos he put up a nest box & took ‘my’ birds away from me Have yer thought about a gun for the magpies Elle xx P.s I am only joking, I don’t wanna offend anyone

Great update Paul and fantastic how you have such a ‘magic ‘ touch with your nesting birds, am sure if it was me they would fly a mile . My son seems to have the same rapport with birds in his garden, he has great tits this year and they are already feeding chicks. He can do anything around the box and they just are not at all phased by him. So brilliant you have such a variety of nests - shame no sparrows though. Sue

I think all pigeons are brave Paul cos when they come in my garden I run out to shoo them off (otherwise the bluetits won’t come back to the nest box & they poo on my washing) they actually give me a stand-off on my own fence, they are not put off nor scared of me, they literally look down at me like, ‘what you trying to do, scare me?! Pfttt!!’ It really really annoys me cos it knows I can’t reach it cos I’m only 5ft & a peanut! They’re clever enough to land on the fence which is 6ft, on the other side of garden we have a 3ft fence and they never land on that side, cos they know I can get them that side 🤬🤬 Elle xx
