Bad news: A week ago today, our indoor patio sliding door came off the track in the half open position & my husband said that he thought the track had split. A man came to have a look at it (all lockdown distances kept of course) & he confirmed this. We're having to wait until a new one can be made & fitted, good job it wasn't an external patio door as we would have frozen to death!
Last Saturday, the washing machine broke down half way through it's cycle. Ordered a new one which arrived yesterday, put in the garage still in its packaging, contacted our plumbing firm & they are coming next Monday afternoon to sort everything out for us, including taking our old machine away. Therefore, not only a pile of washing to do next week, but another dent in our bank balance!
My husband is on the "at risk" register, so it may be months before we can see our daughter & grandchildren again or go out, so thank goodness for our back garden. Out of curiousity, is anyone else on this register besides Elle & me?

Oh Diane, you sound like you’ve had a packet full of problems. So hope things begin to improve for you both soon. I don’t consider myself in the ‘at risk’ bracket Diane, but I am in the age group that the government has decided should be a lot more cautious. Like you, I do not know when we’ll be able to hug our granddaughters again . Very sad times but with modern technology and a lot of guidance we are still able to virtually ‘see’ our family so am very grateful for that. hope everything gets sorted for you. Big virtual hugs. Sue

Sue & Paul, thanks for your replies & good wishes. We'll have to wait a while until the weather gets warmer to see our family in the garden. They will be able to get from the front of the house via the garage & then through to the garden. Seeing as it's 100 feet long approximately, we'll both be able to keep a very long distance away from them.

Local lockdown just announced for us starting Tuesday (Merseyside) no end in sight for Covid19, I hate to imagine the kind of Christmas and new year it will be this year. Back to only seeing a small number of my family it is

Hi Paul, yes I knew it would affect you & your family when I heard & saw it on BBC lunchtime news. We have only managed to see our daughter twice, first time in late June in the garden & then early August in the house (safe distance also & facemask worn by her etc.)
Couldn't see our 2 grandchildren then though (last time was 19 December last year) & now won't be able to see any of them this year I suppose. Debra & son-in-law are teachers & they think it would be too risky now as there are lots of outbreaks already in their area ..... so I do sympathise & empathise with you
now.

Hi it’s been a while since I last was on the forum. With family life and work sometimes they take over. We have been told in County Durham our lockdown started yesterday, I also hate to think what Christmas will be like.

Looks highly likely that Pubs and Restaurants will be forced to close in Liverpool next week, I feel sorry for my sister to be honest, She is a manager of a restaurant and they're already struggling as it is with the current lockdown on the city. Wake me up when its all over

Ooops Paul, I missed your new mesage until just now & of course you have now gone into Tier 3 - so of course I feel very sorry for you and all your family, as we all know how close-knit you all are with each other. Your poor sister too, as if she hadn't enough to worry about before. Please answer one question if you don't mind? Does your lovely Nan live with your parents/Aunties/Uncles - I'm hoping the answer is yes, as I can't bear the thought of her living on her own now.

Well restaurants are safe for now, But I doubt that will last for long, I imagine over the next few weeks they will be put on the list of businesses to close! My little nan is fine, Thank you very much for asking Diane, Really thoughtful! One of her sons live with her and his kids (currently going through a divorce) so he's been there since before Covid so shes got company. She is just extremely bored haha she is a little character my nan, Always out and about so at moment she is just very bored! 143 deaths today though and 17k cases, How long before the whole of the uk is on tier 3 with even more rules added to it, That is the question. Stay safe

Hi Paul, thanks so much for telling me about your lovely Nan & I'm so sorry she's bored to tears as I know the feeling! At least I've got family history research to relieve it seeing as I can't do much gardening these days. I'm pleased she's not alone at this bad time, though I'm sorry that your uncle is going through a divorce as I also know what that's like after my first husband left me & my daughter after 11 years of marriage. Anyway, my second husband & I celebrated 43 years last year & this one is the soul-mate.

I'm late catching up with this thread. I am originally from the north west so most of my family and friends are in the worst hit areas. We are so lucky where we are in Cornwall to be relatively safe (not really the right word) There was real fear during the holiday season as the population increased ten fold but things seemed to still be under control. I hope you all stay safe and that the measures in place work to stop the spread. We are in the over 70 group so try our best to minimise contact but are fortunate to still be able to see our grandchildren and had a bit of a scare when our 4yr old gd developed a temperature a couple of days after we had helped out with childcare. The 2 days we waited for her test results to come through were not pleasant but the negative result came back and we could all breathe again🙂

Well, fancy you being a Northern lass Sammi like me, I thought you were born in Cornwall - but you are so lucky to be living there. Sorry about the scare you had with your grand-daughter, very nerve racking for you. We haven't seen our grandchildren since December last year & really miss them, Ethan's self isolating ends next Monday as he was sitting behind someone who tested positive at his school. 5 pupils confirmed at son-in-laws school where he teaches & 3 at my daughter's school & Eleanor still at home after leaving Lincoln Uni last year - so no chance of seeing any of them for ages. They live in the Nottinghamshire C.C. area & seeing as Notts figures are a lot higher than Manchester - we all reckon that they'll be next for tier 3.

I can't believe we are in another national lockdown 10 months into this and I can't believe its been allowed to get this bad again either. Please all stay safe over the coming weeks, I think this lockdown will likely go beyond the middle of February but we will see, Lets hope they do get that vaccine rolled out quickly to the top 4. At this stage I have kind of lost all hope in them and find it hard to believe a word that comes out of Boris mouth but I hold on hope that they get the shit against and throw everything into this vaccine! I know it seems never ending right now but this time we do have the vaccine and fingers crossed by Late Spring / Early Summer we will be in a much better place! We can only hope can't we? But while we wait and hope, Just enjoy the wildlife in the garden! I know me and cheryl will be getting out into the countryside for long walks and keeps us sane! STAY SAFE
