Everyone, At last I can create a thread for my birds, explanation & photo below. On the 19 February this year, I had to completely cut down all the bushes on our back fence, as severe high winds blew the whole lot away from the fence onto the lawn. They were secured with wires as they grew, but the winds managed to break them too. I was upset about it but I made plans to dig out all the stumps & roots etc. in warmer weather (but this never happened because I was totally out of action since 1st March.)
Now managing to get down the steps to the patio, so that I can see all the birds - the good news is that great tits are using my one & only box again (12th year now), flying to and fro all day, two families of sparrows are nesting in the ivy, plus one blackbird family & pigeons have made a nest in the 2 foot high ivy top of the Big Shed. A robin family is nesting in a Red Robin bush which is very appropriate.

hardy - no camera, but at least I know the box is still being used & I consider myself lucky as other members do have cameras but no nests in their boxes - which is such a shame.

Diane just spotted your post on here. Trust me all at sixes and sevens this year. Glad that you have something to watch even though you cannot see everything-sometimes that's a blessing!

Bird news: Everything is fine so far with all the birds nesting in my garden, the GT's are still feeding their young at a fair rate of knots - none stop from dawn to dusk, so fingers crossed things stay the same. Good news: I'm still improving - dressed everyday, walking properly but still slowly & I can walk on the path in the garden & will try walking on the lawn in a few days.
During this lockdown however, our bank balance has already been reduced & will be reduced even further this month & next. I have just started a new thread with details in the Miscellaneous Board, General Discussion thread called Lockdown 2020.

Sue, Paul & Taz for your messages - I'll get right eventually but much better to bear now I can get into the garden, things still OK so far with my birds. I'm lucky as we don't get starlings at all, just the flaming magpies & cats (sorry to all who like cats!)

The only camera we have is the old fashioned type, but it wasn't with me when I was standing in our Big Shed on 19 May, which is the date our GT chicks fledged! I saw the parents still flying into the bird box in the morning when I was sitting in the garden, but at 2.00p.m. I went into the shed to fetch something. It's piled high with all the bushes that I cut down on our back fence in February waiting to be cut up & recycled. I heard a rustling noise behind me & when I turned round to see what it was - a little head was poking out of the heap & then the rest of the gorgeous chick emerged & it just sat there on top of the heap. It chirped, had a reply so it fluttered & landed on the edge of a step stool & stayed there. Then a repeat of the chirps & replies etc. to land on the edge of a plastic chair - then finally it flew out of the shed & over to the parent/s in the red robin bush. All of this took 3 minutes, plenty of time to take photos, but I will always have the beautiful memory of seeing one up close & personal. The rest of the day & everyday since, no GT's going into the bird box, so next week sometime we'll take the box down & hopefully just see an empty nest in there.

That was lovely to get up and personal to the baby GT, I had the pleasure in the garden yesterday, one landed on the lower branch of a Birch tree I was under, I froze so as it wouldn’t fly away, one of the parents was in the garden next door, screeching at it while it just kept chirping at me, like you I’d no camera but I would’nt have wanted to spoil the moment anyway, even nicer if it was one of your own

for your replies, I'm so happy that our bird box is still chosen as it's so old. I didn't think we'd get a nest in it this year, as two bird boxes were put up in February in the huge alders to the left over our back fence. The oak tree in next door's garden is accessable to the new boxes plus another bigger oak tree right behind them - so miracles still happen!

Congrats on the successful fledge of your chicks.
Lovely to have the chick up so close...m
My heart does go out to them that they are so trusting and innocent...I've fledgling sparrows hanging around on my deck, all fat and clumsy, and I'm urging them to get a bit of cop on before the neighbourhood cats get wind of them...."go on, go on!!, get up into that tree!!!"
Great when you get to chance to be up and close to them though before the head off to the big world.
