When I put the mealies out this morning, the robin appeared and filled his beak. So he has found them also. The female robin is now building a nest in robin bird box. So it looks like I'll have a second family in residence.

Oooh, I am very envious of you now getting a robin nest - I have a couple of robins nesting but would love more as I'm greedy I know, but they're my favourite birds.

A short video not the best quality of my Gt Tits at 7 days old yesterday. i was worried this am when I didn't see Chloe or Con entering the box and then i noticed a neighbours cat trying to jump up to the box. Will have to keep a closer watch now.

Pesky cats Brian. Can't see the video, says it's private. Good luck with cat watch 😸

I put the meal worms out last week and every bird in the garden descended on them, so I improvised and added sellotape and an entry hole made of cardboard. The Gt Tits gained access underneath and then used the entry hole. I don't know whether it is Chloe or Conn who still go in underneath. I have put up a short video. It is a bit shaky but it gives you an idea of how i overcame the problem. The Robin nest is complete but I have not seen her in days near the nest. I noticed a cat near the box yesterday morning eating something and I only hope she has not attacked her.

Well done on the feeder Brian, very clever. Isn’t if funny, you give them a direct access and still they find a different way to use thing Sue

I appear to have lost one of the Gt Tit birds. I can only see 7 mouths in the past few days. There does not appear to be any dead bird in the nest.

Oh no, they are very good at removing dead chicks though. I take it they're feeding well?

Approx another week before they fledge. Getting louder in last day or so and seen to be eating a lot more.

You have the same feeder as me Hardy except I hang mine from a tree. The Robin and Sparrows take the mealies as well as the Blue Tit's however I use my Scott feeders for the BT's when the large feeder is empty, this way everyone who can get in the tree one gets something but my birds always have a supply. Sorry to hear of a possible demise in your nest but yes they are very swift at removing them. In fact in 2014 I have video of mum pecking a dead chick breaking it up and taking it out bit by bit. Gruesome but it didn't feel any pain!

Wonderful defences you did to protect your mealworms, I enjoyed the clip, but sorry to read that you are missing one of them.

Great to hear your experience with the mealies is going well...
I still haven't ventured to buy them yet....but with only the 3 chicks, who are clearly thriving, I feel there is no real urgency this year.
Good luck with 'fledge week'...

All going well in my nestbox. Chloe didn't sleep in the box last night so they must be getting ready for the outside world in next few days.
