Congrats on the hatchings, how funny yours and Helen’s birds are mirroring one another. Brilliant news. Sue

I have just seen 8 mouths so all of Chloe's eggs have hatched. I had only seen 7 until today even though I couldn't see the remaining egg since yesterday afternoon. Feeding going well. Both in and out with food every few minutes.

All going well then Brian, have you got a supply of mealies booked? 8 will need some feeding frenzies in 2 or 3 days.

It is the first time I have ordered them as there appears to be a plentiful supply of food in the area. They are very expensive here in Ireland and very hard to sourse.

Didn’t realise you were from Ireland also Brian. I get my mealworms by the Kilo from Kinsealy pet stores in North Dublin, don’t know if that’s anywhere near you? I ring up and order in advance, they have any size and quantity and no they’re not cheap. `but it’s only a few weeks a year

I have never ordered mealworms or any live food for my birds. They seem to get enough in the area. I decided this year, as a lot of people seem to be feeding live food, to order from Pet Bliss. I'll see how I get on when they arrive.

I keep mine in a fridge Brian, and feed them on readybrek and sliced potato and carrot (rounds about 5mm thick) for the moisture.
I got mini-mealies to feed at around 3-4 days onwards and these grew during Tim's time in the nest to medium size at his fledge.
Obviously yours won't last that long with 8 chicks to feed!

It's always a relief when you can count all the gapes isn't it. It becomes a daily ritual with me. Cant get on with the day till I've done the head count!

Got a delivery of mealies today. After I put them out Chloe appeared and looked in but didn't fancy them. An hour later both are visiting and they seem to be going down a treat. I notice when they take one they fly away in different directions to nearby trees and then back to the nestbox. I suppose this is normal so as not to show prey where they are going.
