Such a great video of her getting those eggs back into the nest. Clever girl. Hope they all hatch successfully and not too far apart. We had young GT s in the garden today at the feeders looking really well fed. I'd love to get them nesting in my boxes.

I have no idea why they were out of the nest cup sammi, had another hatch this morning that makes 3. I'm sure you'll have a GT's nest at some point in future.

I absolutely love those 3 clips you put on Pete, particularly the first one where she is so gentle getting them back into the nest cup. Thanks for the update of three eggs now hatched, so things are going well at the moment & for popping in when time allows to tell us all the latest.

So glad she managed to get them back in the nest cup, hope they are ok . She kept looking at them as much as to say how did they get there. Letβs us know if they all hatch ok when you have the time. Sue

Maybe Pete she was doing a spot of over zealous egg turning and they toppled over the edge. Haven't seen such great egg rolling technique before though. My bluetit May managed to toss two chicks out whilst upside down cleaning the bottom. She made no effort to get those two back in though

Hi Paul, all 7 eggs hatched although the last one was 2 - 3 days later than the rest, i'm arfaid that chick died. The rest of them seem to be doing OK not sure if they have found the mealworms, every other bird has. they seem to be finding natural food alright, small spiders, small grubs of some sort and caterpilars now and again. I'll try and post some vids later this evening.

again for the update Pete, sorry to read that one chick died & I suppose that's because it was so long hatching after the others. Still, you have 6 healthy ones left - feeding OK, so that is definitely cause for a celebration!

Hope this grotty weather is not having an effect on their food supply.
I remember my GTs were a while finding the mini mealies, they were bringing in the natural stuff for two or three days before they graduated to regular/mini mealies. But then that was during the warm spell!
Anyway good luck, hope they find the mealies soon and these 5 fledge.

Sorry to read that you lost another chick Pete and I hope that the others will be OK, as this horrible year for all birds fledging, seems to have been disastrous, on this forum at least.

Pete itβs awful that another chick has died. I know the weather has been dreadful and I hope it has not affected their natural food supply. Fingers crossed the remaining chicks will be fine.

Unfortunatley two more died last night, i don't know what food this is she's given them but this has been brought in inbetween natural food, to me it looks like it could be suet. Natural food has been quite small, i think i've only seen two or three nice size caterpillars, and they still hav'nt found the meal worms even though they've been eating the sunflower hearts which is inches away from them.

Hi Pete Its such a shame to lose two more. The weather has been so cold and wet it must mean food is scarce. So frustrating regarding the mealworm. Fingers crossed things improve.π€

Oh Pete, what heartbreaking news this is. To me, it does look like suet she's giving them, but maybe others can confirm that. Such a shame that she's neglecting the meal worms on offer though.

Hi Pete, only just catching up on the forum after a very very wet holiday in Scotland. So sorry to hear about the chicks dying. Did any get to survive Pete? Always a mystery why they ignore mealworms when they are on offer . Hope there is some good news to come Sue

Hi everyone, in the end two survived to fledge, it was just a shame that they did'nt find the meal worms. I've seen some young BT's on the feeders so its nice to think its them. I've now got a robin sitting on eggs just outside my back garden door in an old garden nature box which i just jammed in a bush, could'nt believe it when i saw the female nest building thats gonna be an interesting watch (i must treat myself to an external camera for acasions like this). So its not quite the end of my season yet.

So pleased you've still got a nest to keep you busy.π it's paid off just sticking old boxes in suitable spots. π

I'm as pleased as you are, that two of your BT's fledged, so better than none at all making it. Seeing a robin nest building was a lovely surprise for you & to hear that she is now sitting on eggs is great - enjoy watching her, seeing as she is so close to your back door.
