Helen, Look at the little one on the left so cute. The littlest ones are always my favourites & who I root for. He looks just as healthy as his elders so getting a good amount of grub. Not long now for them to go hope all goes well and they stay safe. We shall have empty nest syndrome soon.

You’re so right Kathy, had only noticed him yesterday, I think they were all more or less the same size but in the last day or two he hasn’t grown as much as the other 6, who are definitely all the same size. But he is definitely as feisty as the others, I watched him for awhile and he gets plenty of grub from both parents so I’m sure he’ll be fine, with that cute little face

Aaww Helen it's so lovely to see a nest full of chicks. Our tiniest one was the last to fledge and wanted the longest lie in before he left. I noticed too that although the smaller two were the last to get fed usually they didn't go hungry.

Thanks Sammi They look so ready to go today, even the little one, I’m guessing tomorrow, my big worry is the cat as I said before her favourite sleeping places are either under the bird feeder or under the nestbox But she\ll be locked inside from tonight till Sunday, family not too happy.....but who is more important at the moment my 7 gorgeous BT babies or the family......no contest

So cute, glad the cat will be kept in, gives them a chance to "explore" the ground if their fledging drops them to the ground and they miss the branches of the tree

Also hope the parents have the sense to move them on to another garden asap as the cat tends to stay around here, although with her main focus gone who knows

Ah cats!!! They've played a big role in this seasons forums updates.
Yes, I do wish the chicks were a little more street wise when they leave the nest... it's just so easy for our feline friends...
We call the chicks that land on our deck the 'fat gang'... they are so slow and trusting. They never seem to have any sense of peril.
Isn't it odd that nature would leave them so vulnerable like that?

5 Quick update, only 2 fledged today at about 4pm, hopefully other 5 will be gone first thing in the morning. Poor cat not enjoying the indoor life and as for my family having to put up with the cat being kept indoors and me telling them to keep the doors shut to the outside on the hottest days of the year

Congratulations on your two fledging, fingers crossed for tomorrow's flights. Well done for persevering with keeping the cat indoors, can't be easy x

Lovely videos Helen, loved the little one getting so eager. Is the one he pushed out the one trying to get back in ? Great outcome. Bet the cat is quite relieved they have gone 😾😼 Sue

Nice little vid Helen. It's a pity that sometimes the larger clutches seem to split their departure times, it makes it so difficult to get everything covered, especially an outside fledge.

Thanks guys, I’m so chuffed that 7 fledged, that’s my best success ever, usually 2 or 3 chicks die along the way, but this time 7 out of 8 hatched and they all made it to the outside world
