Hi all... Just popping in quickly. I've had a few return visits to the Aldi box by a Great tit...so i suspect it might be selected for roosting. So, as the new camera I got could not work properly due to the roof not being high enough, today we switched out the old Aldi box for a new replica box in Cedar. It has a higher roof to accommodate the wi-fi camera aerial. Just went up in the last hour so as its quite overcast the camera had switched to night vision....didn't get to see the image in proper daylight yet. Hopefully there will be enough light. Delighted to say the camera is working perfectly now though with no more sound interference. Plus the WiFi signal is picking up much better. Success!! So, that's another job done and we're all set for Autumn now. Also the trio of chicks are still together and are on the feeders daily. Great that they stuck around. We've had a huge influx of birds into the garden again now...even the blue tits are back. They had seemed to have disappeared for good after the cat saga. So next job...the hedgehog house. Bye all.

Hi again...one more update: As mentioned already my trio of Great Tit chicks are still together. They are very active on the feeders. Here is a video of the three of them just today checking out the bird box which had the Blue tit nest. You can see the siblings loitering under the window cill while they wait for the verdict. This is the first visit to that box since that awful day back in April when Mrs Blue Tit abandoned the nest. Not one bit of interest since then...so its great to see some activity in it again. There was also a short outside visit to box of my other boxes today...to the new homemade Ceder 'Aldi' box and also the side view box with the big spider in it. So I might have all three chicks setting up camp in my garden!!!. Imagine!!! Heres is the inside daylight view of the new homemade Ceder Aldi box replica - lighting is okay without the LED strip light! Brilliant!!!

Hi everyone, Hope you are all keeping really well, things are still bananas as far as Covid is concerned.... Just popping in to check up on you all. Great to see people are still posting! Yay!!! I'll catch up on all the post now shortly. Well, hasn't the weather changed dramatically!!!???? - you can actually smell the cold weather now!!! Seemed to happen over night. And with that, we got our first rooster on 29th September - A Blue Tit in the top view box....it had been brewing for a few days, and I just knew it was going to take the box. ...and we've had some great interest in our two other boxes by Great Tits also, posibbly one or two of the fledgling chicks (all three are still together by the way).... so fingers crossed, we may get a rooster or two more. Also, just wanted to share with you my little informal Facebook page that I set up for a few close friends who suggested I should as they love seeing the updates in the garden...I wanted to keep the updates separate from my main page so as not to annoy people who may not be interested at all....but you guys are very welcome to follow the page. It is called "Brambly Ramblings". Just a nice, pure, honest to goodness nature page, updating the goings on in our garden - no politics, religion and especially no Covid talk allowed!!!!!

Just spoke to GBH over email, She is doing fine just very busy with work and limiting the time she spends online / screen time also due to work isn't spending much time at home like past years She said she will pop on the forum when activity picks up and say hello She also told me to let you all know she runs her own facebook page here - www.facebook.com/BramblyRamblingsand updates all about the happenings in the garden on that.

Good morning Bird lovers! How is everyone? Sitting here on this lovely sunny May bank holiday Sunday morning and I thought I'd pop in and see how you all are! Lovely to see the forum a buzz with activity again this year. Its brilliant. Sorry I haven't been in before now.... (I have been actively & deliberately trying to reduce my screen time in general. Kind of a new resolution sort of thing. As mentioned above I created the "Brambly Ramblings" Facebook page to quickly catalogue any interesting comings and goings in the garden. Two minutes, pop up an update and its done. I was a terrible one for falling into an internet black hole for hours on end!! ha,ha!!! ) Anyway my year in summary: Great Tit nest - four eggs, chicks now all hatched over yesterday and this morning. Blue Tit nest - six eggs so far....quite possible there may be one more today but can't tell as she has them well hidden. Bat Box - no activity that I'm aware of. Hedgehog box - Hedgehog comes and goes....slept a few nights in the box when the nights were colder but no real activity at present. Garden watch - Foxes still coming and going but over all, its been very quiet over all. Roof eaves - West facing - Sparrows nest . So, this is a big change from my previous decade of wishing and hoping and having absolutely no interest!!! So, needless to say, its been such a joy. All three of my bird boxes, plus one more decorative bird feeder box which we had placed on a low branch on a tree had over-wintering roosters. Three male Blue Tits and one female Great Tit. The Great Tit went on to build her nest where she had been roosting in the shed box. So this year, I have the pleasure of one Great Tit nest in the shed box and one Blue Tit nest in the top view east facing box. This is my first ever Blue Tit nest so very excited about that. Last year was my first ever nest with the Great Tit, if you all recall!!!! We came close to a second Blue Tit nest in the third box, which is on the north of the house, but it was unexplainably abandoned close to the finish and there has been no interest in this box ever since. All my bird boxes are homemade and either came with us in the 2019 move, or were built after we arrived here, so none of these boxes were ever previously used so its a first for them all. The location of the Great Tit box had been used with a surprise late nest last year, but that was with the old Aldi box, which was switched out for a homemade cedar box with a new camera. The old Aldi box went into retirement was destined for the fire, until in a terrible storm hit in late January and the bird feeder box where my fourth rooster was sheltering was blown down and smashed. So we had to do an emergency replacement with the Aldi box, and thankfully it was taken by the fourth rooster after a few days. So, the Aldi box lives to see another season!!! It had great interest by sparrows, but I think because it is too low in the tree, it is probably deemed to be unsafe by any nesting birds. It was never supposed to be placed with a nest in mind. That's the update so far... Wishing you all the best in this nesting season, and I hopeful that everyone has a successful year once again.
