P.s just noticed....going by their black 'cap' colourings....it looks like there is one male with jet black cap, and two females with lighter dark grey caps.

Oh GBH can you actually tell, if so that would be very good to know! Always wanted to understand the ratio of males to females in my BT nest but don't know if that is possible other than their behaviour in the nest.

Thanks... On that list is says: "The youngsters lack the adults black breast stripe and the large cheek patches are yellowish instead of white." But mine have a strong black breast stripe already, although their cheeks are a bit yellowy though. Plus, one has a much darker 'cap' than the other two also - so saying that "the head is a dull black" doesn't ring through either - not for that little guy anyway? hmmm. Anyway.... whatever they are, they are little treasures!

Quick report in from my daughter who just went to check the bird box - they are still there!!!
But even more frantic than ever she says - going nuts - its a matter of hours before they fly I'd say - I do hope they hold on until tomorrow though, when I'm off.

Well...I'm home now and in the shed with a cuppa and some bikkies and my phone charger in case I'm her for while.
The three are still there and Mother bird is still doing the food teasing...but now shes doing it from the entrance...she must be desperate to get them out?
They must be starving by now!!! So mean!!!
There is a lot of noise outside though- my neighbours are chain sawing branches on trees.
I wonder has this stopped them going??

Well...after all that, they've all gone asleep now - heads under their wings. No budging them tonight. I'm heading back up to the house. Chat tomorrow. Edited: to add a photo of their very last night sleeping in the box.

Hi all... Well, Day 20 and they are still here...up since the crack of dawn and I've tons and tons of nice photos now, and 'nearly went' video footage...but of course, they jump back down. They are really ready to go now though. Its a nice sunny day here, temperature way up from yesterday...so once again I say "today is the day" So, I'm just in having a spot of grub and a cuppa....and I'll head back out. I have to go out at 10:30 for about 30 mins so I really hope they have gone by then as I'll be like a stunt driver trying to get back if they are not gone by the time I leave.

And here is the BIG event from start to finish. Can't believe how blessed I feel to be: a. at home for this b. be actually there at the right time!! All the planets and stars aligned for me this morning....I'm so grateful. (Unfortunately, up to now my old TVs sound had been fine, but this morning it decided to have a weird electrical buzz, so I had to turn down the volume at bit, but I was nearly deafened by the chicks anyway, so maybe it was not a bad thing! ) So - Day 20 - Fledge day - goodbye little ones. For those who just want to watch the chicks leave....just watch the first minute or two for Chick 1, then about 4 mins in for Chick 2, then skip right on to the end...as its 20mins long!!! Chick number 3 needed a bit more encouragement.

Great GBH that they fledged successfully. The last one took its time. Roll on another year. Keep safe all.

Thanks all. Went out for a while, and came back to hear a familiar sound in the garden...and there they all were!!!! My three guys are delighted with their lives, following Mammy all around, up through the trees and all around the hedgegroves. So thrilled to see them out in nature and enjoying life. Long may it last! (Sorry for the crunchy sounds - that's my phone case rattling)
