Its like a nature reserve where you're living now GBH.........You could set up nature or biodiversity visits and use the money to buy lots more nestboxes and hitech cameras and recording equipment....

Yes...big difference to what I had at the last house! Thrilled to bits with all the activity. Its delightful!! So, I've been setting everything up for "Badger Watch" this evening.... Decided to use my outdoor dome CCTV camera which was originally facing the sideview box. This will give a better, panoramic view - its better designed for capturing night activity, so hopefully we'll get to see some interesting wildlife tonight. Here is the picture of the corner of the garden....to the left corner is where there is alot of 'footfall' and the poo is all along the edge of the hedge. So there must be a badger set nearby. This is also where we see the hedgehog scuttling along, but we haven't seen him for a while...perhaps we might catch him too!

Well...nothing exciting to report - a cat, a small nondescript creature (mouse/shrew?), several slugs, and later, towards dawn, a Black bird.
So, not exactly edge of your seat stuff...ha,ha!!
This morning the camera did capture Mr GoldCrest scuttling along the hedge again, but unfortunately, the dome cameras fish bowl eye lens means it doesn't really focus in on smaller things...so it just looks like a moving blur.
And although the camera is about 2ft away from the hedge, the video films like its much further away, which is not ideal.
Tonight I might try the Sony Effio birdbox camera instead - maybe that might work better after all?
Edited to say: Tried the Sony Effio...it is not as good as the dome camera, so thats that. I'll leave it as it is.

@ Paul - no - I was kind of afraid to!! And wasn't sure what I should give them anyway.
I've read they wreck your lawn....there is already a few holes starting to appear...so maybe I shouldn't encourage them??????

Hi all..
Nothing to report
- Viv the Great Tit is still sitting on the three eggs as of this morning. I make it Day 10 since 1st day of incubation. Yesterday, I thought my eyes were tricking me as I saw one of the eggs move slightly...so at least one is viable anyway!!!
Here is a little video of "Hedgy" and his/her friend. Again, footage not great and I need to get it right - the dome CCTV camera translates as being too far away for some reason, even though it is right up beside that hedge...don't fully understand why it looks this way? Can't seem to adjust the camera to film closer.

Hi Karen, no, I've nothing done with the hoggies! They just visit...this is all new to me at present.
Need to read up on how to start and get a little house built etc.... I thought it would be the wrong time of year to put it out?

Day 11 of incubation.... and the end of my 6 week 'sojourn' at home. I'm going back to work today to put the 'COVID 19 Return to Business Safety Protocols' in place before the construction industry opens up officially in Ireland next Monday. I'll be working on that for the rest of the week to ensure all the criteria boxes are ticked and get the company physically ready for the 'new normal'. I have to say, the break has been great.....I never took one second for granted, and was thankful for every second at home...we got the chance to move into this house properly at last, put pictures on the wall, find stuff we thought we'd lost, sorted out cupboards and made plans for the garden. The constant unprecedented hot, sunny weather was a welcome blessing, the time spent with my kids (when they surfaced - they actually have a lot to say - lol!), cat conundrums, bird boxes, wasps, gardening, planting seeds, watching them grow and just the buzz of nature all around..... just the slower paced way of life....drinking and eating too much also! I binge watched 'Tiger King', 'The English Game', enjoyed all six series of 'Community', and finally got to see 'Bohemian Rhapsody', caught up with people online via 'House Party' and the joy of not having to worry about getting up early the next morning....and oh the lie ins!! One could almost forgot the reason why we were home in the first place.....but then the reality sets in....and the realisation of the danger all around us...and the fear returns. There is a long battle ahead with this virus - hopefully, there will be a cure soon. Stay safe all....I'll be mad busy now going forward, but will update you if any chicks appear. A few pics as of this morning: Mother still happy, healthy and attentive: Three eggs still in place:

GBH a great reflection, on time spent at home GBH, its surprising what things can be done when we have time on our side and like you say you almost forget what is going on around us. Stay safe over there, and we pray for an end to all this worry and a cure for the virus

Well put GBH, because of the glorious weather and the unreality of it all, it does seem like a holiday a lot of the time. I work from home anyway, but am only working a third of my usual time, so that’s why I’ve a lot more time to spend on this site , usually I’ve barely time to keep up with. other peoples blogs let alone do my own Keep safe out there

Stay safe when you go back to work GBH, I also have enjoyed the time off but I also want it to end now, I just want some form of "Normal" back in my pattern, I want to be able see loved ones and go and give my little nan a hug and things. Just the simple things in life that we get for granted bam took away from us, Unlike some idiots I have respected all the guidelines, I just hope we can all get some form of normal back very soon when it is safe to do so.

GBH - thanks for the update & piccies, it's great reading all about them. As others have said, please take care of yourself in this now "hostile world" but I do understand that the lockdown is awful for anyone having to stay at home any longer.

Hi GBH. Hope you enjoy getting back to work. I agree with you. Our time in lockdown has been quite chilled and I could go on at this pace quite happily. I would obviously like to see the family again and see the end of the fear of Covid19 but that's all I'd change. No one more change....I would also like year round nesting activity from our feathered friends🤣
