Hi all....beautiful sunny day here, clear skies - its going to be a smasher. Here is a nice clear (ish) picture of the progress so far - 3 eggs laid now - she's been sitting on them all morning, so she left and I finally got a photo of them.

Thanks all...
Got up this morning at 5:30am in the hopes to catching her laying the fourth egg....sat there, phone in hand, recording footage right up to 8am....I was extremely quiet and sat really still, making no noise at all...but no egg was forthcoming.
Either she is finished laying at just three eggs, or she sensed my presence in the shed and didn't lay? I'd be annoyed at myself if I put her off...that is not how it should go!!! I won't bother her again just in case.
Is it possible though that this is it?
I noticed she was sitting on the eggs the majority of the day yesterday, and also since 5:30 she has been sitting on them constantly, only getting up to leave for a few short minutes at a time. So, could she be incubating?

Yes, I was thinking of your little Tim while typing.... I suppose they'd have a good chance with only three...just like your little guy.

I think the lowest I ever had was 4 eggs for Gt tits and most 6 till this year. I have 8 this year so hope they all make it.

Well, my lady seems to have settled on a clutch of three eggs. She has been sitting constantly on them for two full days now so I suppose she must be incubating them. Does this mean that they will hatch approx around 15th May? ![]() She she is in her usual spot. Bored.com! While I was taking these photo through the shed window (hence the further crappiness of them), look who flew down RIGHT BESIDE ME!!! A little Goldcrest. The garden is surrounded by Laylandii hedging and these guys loves to nest in them. I'd never seen one so close though....and he was real brave. Tried to get a photo but the photo I took looked like it was a million miles away. So here is a proper one! Photo courtesy of Carl Morrow Photography on Birdwatch Ireland

Also forgot to say...I went exploring the garden yesterday and have discovered, two robins nests - one to the back garden and one in the front garden.
Also, a sparrows nest in the ridge of our roof! They are very vocal!! And the parents come down to us now, as the cat is gone, and obviously don't see us as a treat.

Brilliant stuff GBH! Not seen a Goldcrest for a few years now. You are right about the Laylandii as I saw a few in my sister in laws that time! Good news about finding your Robins.

Hi all...nothing new to report. Herself is still sitting on three eggs.... Found this on my lawn this morning. Quite a large egg..about 3cm x 2.5cm. I've looked it up and think its a Jackdaw egg shell? I assume it was snatched from a nearby nest... We've a Magpie on the prowl these last few days. We have a Ring collared dove nest and a Wood pigeon nest up in our high trees at the back of the garden...hope they don't get attacked too. Edited to say: It might be a Mistle Thrush egg actually??? Photos on the internet vary greatly!

I thought it was initially, but its not blue....there is a slight blue hue to it, but its moe cream... doesn't have a definite blue like a blackbirds egg.

Did the GT only stick with 3 eggs in the end GBH?

Yes, it appears that way...she stopped at 3 eggs as is into day 4 of incubation I think? She is diligently sitting on them full time since Saturday. She goes for long naps during the day with her head under her wing. I suppose what else can she do!
Now...an interesting development in my garden. I've just discovered we have a badger visiting. There is evidence of lots of droppings near the edge of the hedge and a path has been created into the hedge.
I would love to get a look at this guy. I've one spare Sony Effio camera meant for a bird box, but I might try and make a housing of some sort to see if I can catch any badger activity.
I must also look up how to attract him in....

You have a lot of action in your garden. I never saw a goldcrest, beautiful looking bird. Good luck with the 3 eggs.
